SO I'm in the process of building up my CA18DET and ordered a Cometic/Wiseco MLS head gasket as well as a full engine gasket kit. Both say they are for the DET. Wrong. Just cause the CA18 blocks are similar outside doesn't mean they are inside. Both the Cometic gasket and the generic head gasket are not the correct ones for the DET block. The DET block has WAAAAY more water jacket galleries. Check the pics....

I've contacted Coetic/Wiseco about this they say it's for the DET as well. I call bull****. So what the hell is everyone that has built up a DET doing for a head gasket?

If i remember correctly, it is suposed to have certain jackes blocked off. All the nissan oem ones are like that too. Certain areas of the head werent getting enough coolant cause more flow would go to other areas that didnt need it as much.

Im pretty sure they block the passages to forcemore coolant to more important areas.

Pretty sure i read something to that effect once.

Totally normal. That's no mistake, that's exactly how it's meant to be.

In fact, the DE and DET, both FWD and RWD have the same head gaskets.

You're WRONG! Their supposed to be that way. Good luck at finding a gasket that has holes for all the water jackets.

I believe the idea here is to have the coolant run through the block and then instead of just running to the head where-ever all the flow is forced to the back of the head so it has to run the entire length to the outlet pipe without any shortcuts.
