So I'm making a list of things to do to a '95 240SX SE and obviously audio is part of the plan considering I love music and I fancy myself a bit (not even a little bit extreme) of an audiophile. To be honest, car audio is a tad confusing, as my audio experience is mostly limited to my portable and my PC, which I mostly just game on anyway.

To start I want to just rip out the entire factory system because I don't feel like dealing with the factory amps and would rather just run my own system from the ground up. Let me say I love bass. It's amazing. To that end, I want to build a system capable of giving me heart palpitations due to bass, but I don't want said bass to overpower and ruin the mids and highs. I'll probably end up dumping a couple thousand in the audio system. I know, it's a lot, but I've always wanted a killer system in my car.

So, to start, here's what I have thus far for ideas:

Head Unit:

Alpine CDE-HD137BT
http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/cde-hd137bt/

I could probably live with the HD136BT, which has the same capabilities minus the HD radio, which I wouldn't use TBH. On the other hand there's the HD138BT which has a 5 to 7 band parametric EQ which is nice, but adds an extra 100 bucks, which is why I'm not sure about it.

Front Speakers:

Alpine Type-R SPR-60C
http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-60c/

OR

Alpine Type-X SPX-17PRO
http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/spx-17pro/

(These are overkill and the difference would probably be negligible compared to the Type-S's.)

Rear Speakers:

Alpine Type- R SPR-60
http://alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-60/

Now I know what you're thinking. "This guy is an Alpine fanboy." Not so. I've just had a really good experience with Alpine. I have Type-S's all the way around in my current car and I'm very happy with them for the price. I would have went with the Type-R's but the car isn't worth it IMO. This car will be.

Speculation:

Subwoofer:

JL Audio 13W7AE-D1.5:

This is also probably overkill, but the reviews are outstanding. I don't know if I'd like this or two 12's or two of these.

There are a lot of factors at play when it comes to amps and crossovers (I don't even know what a crossover is (or if I even need one) but I know amps can be a pain, especially to an audio system novice like myself), thus I haven't put any here.

So, any suggestions?

I'm up for changing things around, I know sometimes you get charged just for the brand and not the actual product (i.e., people paying stupid money for a Honda Civic).
