LOL long story short, its not done yet. I'm trying to find a new job so i don't have to put up with the sh** at the one I work at now, so I haven't had the time to work on my car any :-( Luckily one of my dad's friends said he will do it for me so as soon as I can I am taking it over to him(batt is dead).

yeah i know the feeling. i had 5 jobs in under 12 months once living paycheck to paycheck. id just get fed up and walk out. you gotta have respect for where you work or it'll suck the life out of you. Just be glad you dont have a kid to support yet cause you'd have to suck it up all day long.

and so the rust saga continues...

the metals too thin and fragile for an amatuer to mess around with. takes experience. i thought about doing it myself for a while but i bailed early and im glad i did cause its costing me less time & $$$. of course i still dont know how to weld.

Yea, what really sucks about this job is that the ppl I work for were supposed to be friends(known them for about 12yrs now) but never knew what kind of ppl they REALLY are until I started working there.

As for the wheel well on mine, I am going to probably remove the severe rust and then convert the remaining surface rust with the spray on converter. Then go with a metal angle (aka angle iron) that extends above/past the rusted edge of the metal and do a series of spot/tac welds until they almost blend together, then use another piece on the reverse side(behind the plastic on the outside) so that the wheel well is sandwhiched between new metal, of course I am going to make sure that I dont weld on the same spots from the other side of the well . I've seen the spot/tac method used on that show TRUCKS to shave door handles. The frame I am going to leave to my dads friend because I have seen the work he has done on his classic cars.

rust in the unibody sucks. the whole structure supports everything else. case in point...my s13 had a rusted out spare tire pan. that pan is what holds up the fuel tank. one of my tank straps was already sagging. i had to cut the whole pan out and get another pan. unfortunately i could not seem to get a 240 pan for free. i ganked one out of a 94 maxima for free though. the pan was a lot bigger so we had to use the "heat and beat" proccess on it to make her fit. i used my hobar handler 135 with solid wire and straight argon(i know its the wrong gas for steel but its all i had) and it worked great. i had flux core too but i wanted to work fast without so much time in cleanup(ugh flux everywhere). afterwards my fuel tank would not fit back under the new pan. i had to beat the crap out of it with a sledge hammer and make it all sloppy. then it still would not fit so i had to build custom tank strap mounts out of a dvd mount bracket and about a million washers. now the tank sits with the drivers side a little lower than the pass side. this means that the vent tube is higher up than the filler tube. result: if you fill up till pump shuts off, you blow out the filler tube o-ring. that was the time in which my car leaked premium fuel faster than a turbo honda could burn it. so i replaced the tank o-rings(both), extended my vent tube(rubber hose and clamp), slobbered permatex hylomar hpf all over the fittings, and prayed. now she dont leak but there is a little odor.

moral: know what you are getting into.

Wow, I think at that point I would have started saving for a fuel cell. I think as soon as I can I am gettin my car over to my dads friend.

yeah, i tossed the fuel cell idea around a little. im just too poor. i managed to fix the rust for a $5 roll of wire and $20 worth or argon.
