I just noticed something recently the ground is stained with some sort of deposit from the car exhuast. I'm thinking it's a problem with the gas as in the car is not fully consuming the gas somehow but i have no idea. It looks like many many black spots on my garage behind the exhuast. Can anyone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it? I drive a 1990 S13...btw...I'M SO HAPPY WITH THAT S13!!!!!

yeah it is gas possibly mixed in with some water and the black is residue from inside the exhaust piping. my car is doing the same thing except i'm also having a prop with keeping distributor caps and rotors on it i replaced them and three days later the first 2 cylinders weren't firing just like it was doing before i replaced the cap and rotor. any ideas. your car might just be running to rich.

you might have an injector dumping fuel into the cylinders while it sits over night, i read a post about 2 weeks ago about a guy that had the same problem. i'll search and post the link if i find it.

the problem isnot really that big, if you can live with it, but generally none of us want our cars smokin from anywhere, well exept the tires. so basicly i found that it is just a number of things that wear out a little and put all together its a prob. you could just do a little at a time but 9 outta 10 times if you drive it all the time and take a long time to get all fixed, one bad part could make the new one go bad quicker, so since you gotta replace anyway, may as well just save $$, as fars as the cat,,,, its actually just the fact that its likely oe right?, so it should be replaced, it also can clog a bit and confuse the ecu,,you may want to do a muffler too if its got over 100k on the muff,,,

i just put plugs, wires, distributor cap and a rotor a week ago. it ran great for three days then the first two cylinders stopped firing. it was doing the same thing 3 days earlier. i don't know if it could be the cat i might try to hollow it out tomorrow night.

I have found at some time or another parts as low as:

ecu chip couple hundred( min was a buddy thing for 50.)injectors 200 aftermkt, plugs wires cap n rotor 50.aft mkt cat, 50-100.

oh yea, it could always be:if everything still runs and works great, try just doing the cat and some or all the piping, it can just be a condensation prob with old chared exuast

well if they are oil fouled AND a little low comp, AND, it smokes somtimes. with oil that turns dark quickly it would likly be piston rings and or valve seals

My car doesn't have the smoke problem. Unless it's a cold weather which is normal but otherwise iI pretty sure it doesn't have black smoke or any smoke at all. THe only problem is the unburn fuel coming out the exhuast and it kills my gas milage. I wouldn't care if gas was free but that's only in a utopia world...i wish my gas is free..hahah. But otherwise everything is ok and it even passed the emission test recently even though it's 1990. :D
