Anyone know if rb25s have the same oil starvation problem that sr20s have with slightly dented oil pans?

Anyone know where I can get a new one?

BECAUSE OF THE BAFFLED NATURE IT IS SUPPOSED TO MAINTAIN OIL PRESSURE, BUT A DENT CAN BE SERIOUSLY DAMAGING TO THE ENGINE. http://WWW.MCKINNEYMOTORSPORTS.COM HAS THEM OCASIONALLY, http://WWW.NIGHT7RACING.COM MAY HAVE ONE ON HAND, AND EBAY HAS THEM OCCASIONALLY.

I have a slightly dented oil pan in my rb20det . I have been driving it for a few hundred miles...doesnt seem to affect anything. But are there really serious risks with dented oil pans??

YES, IT CHANGES THE PRESSURE SOMETIMES. BUT THE BAFFLE SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO MAINTAIN IT.

That's why we should all have oil pressure gauges with these engines. :)

Depending on the dent, it may or may not be critical to get a new pan. My Honda has a dent in the pan, and so did my previous engine I had in it. Never an issue because the dents are minor.

Should I remove the oil pan and try to dent it back out? Or would this ruin the oil pan? The dent is probably about 4"x6" square dented in about 1/3"- 1/2" or so...

I would take it off and inspect it. I don't think you'll be able to pound the dent out of it because the tray over the sump area is probably in the way. But I don't know for sure.

Then he should do it.

How do they make it removable? Curious. Most sumps that I've worked with on imports you cannot remove that..

I KNOW THE RB20 ONE COMES OUT, BECAUSE I HAD MINE OUT. I DON'T KNOW HOW IT CAME OUT BUT IT WAS OUT AND THEN I SET IT BACK IN BEFORE INSTALLING THE ENGINE. I'LL HAVE TO PULL THE PAN OFF AGAIN TO FIGURE IT OUT.

DO NOT REMOVE THE BAFFLE!!!its there ot keep oil UNDER the pickup when turning hard, braking and accelerating

and a dent in the oil pan could be nothing, or something serious

there is 1/4 inch between the bottom of the pickup and the oil pan, a small dent, in just the right place, can cause a starvation of the pump and related problems to not enough oil.

you dont need to buy a new pan, you just need to pound out the dent.

I DIDN'T REMOVE THE BAFFLE, IT IS REMOVEABLE IN ORDER TO FIX THE PAN IS WHAT I WAS SAYING. THE BAFFLE IS THERE TO KEEP PRESSURES STABLE IN THE SYSTEM TO PREVENT OIL STARVATION.

It's dented about 1/4-1/2" all the way across the pan. The boards of the pallet broke from moving around so much and the oil pan was resting on a board. I took the pan off and there's really no way to hammer it out, the baffle is in the way.

How does the oil pickup look? If it isn't smashed or bent in any way you're probably fine to keep using it for daily driving. If you get into racing you'll want to get the problem fixed..

The pickup looked ok, but I plan on driving it hard and don't want to have to worry about the oil pan. How much is a new one?

Me too. The dent is fairly large. Check it out.

I plan to pull the pan, pound out the dent, and then rosebud the area to help keep it from cracking. Unless, of course, Venus sends me another pan.

Damn! If anyone has a dent like that I'd fix that asap. I wouldn't be driving it either...

so is it a dent along the entire length of the pan below the baffle? If so, drill some holes in the baffle along the side of the pan, stick something through the holes and use the baffle for leverage to pop the dent out. The holes shouldn't be enough to matter. If it's in the sump part you can just bang that out easy enough and that's the most important part.

Yeeeeah... it is a pretty big dent. "Crushed oil pan" is the term I prefer. Venus has agreed to ship me a new one tho.

... more delays... I'm just hoping to be finished by New Year's.

Worse case scenario, take the pan off, take it to a sheetmetal shop, they make you a new piece, the cut the bottom off and weld on another piece. Its probably not very hard.

I jumped a curb with my Skyline one night and dented the oil pan pretty good, but I just pounded out the dent. Of course, I have been doing metal work on and off for like 15 years. So don't just beat out the dent with a ball peen hammer...lol.

Whenever you "bang out" the pan, be sure to take care as to confine any changes to the bottom you are hitting. You do not want to create a leak between the block and the pan. Just something to be careful with.

Venus must be bad about that because mine was dented, but not that bad. I didn't get another one, but the did send me a new trans when I found mine was blown to bits. The big issue is oil pressure. Get a gauge and go from there. It would not be a bad idea to fix/replace the pan regardless.

Turbo cars should always have at least fuel and oil pressure gauges and a boost gauge (personal opinion).

Oil pressure is always a good idea. A gauge with a warning light would be ideal.

Project240sx, your baffle must've been removed by someone else before you got it. I pulled my pan today, and the baffle is spot welded to the pan in about 20 spots. I'm not saying it can't be removed, but someone had to split a lot of welds to get it out.

When my pan was dented, the dent bumped right into the pickup and bent the pickup line upward a bit. The pickup is no longer horizontal... it's sitting at about 20 degrees :(

Anyone know the part number for the R33 M/T RB25DET oil pan?
