crank pulley gram weight balancing. at least i think thats what they are called. these are the weights added to the CP via a small sleeve under one or more of the #6 bolts. should i remove weight from old to install on new with same orientation? or just install new as received?

thx

Thought the pulley and crank were balanced as an assembly.

I sure have no idea, so we'll wait for Dennis, but I just had to comment. I love these simple little puzzles!

I wonder if a guy could spin balance the pulleys and match the weight balance?...

Interesting ... which would have the most weight imbalance - the pulley or the crankshaft? I'm thinking the crank, with its greater mass, so the difference between the two pulleys, without the weights, must be relatively negligible. So even without spin balancing, it'd have to be pretty close.

Can't wait to see the answer.

well 96Qowner riddle me this. why does the new crank pulley come wth a built in wobble? damaged crank? faulty part? not as significant as previous but still 1.5mm from true. i dont get it. correctly installed & torqued to 275'lbs. who else has lateral pulley movement? can not detect any vertical movement as the old one had. if the problem is crankshaft related how can the main seal not be affected? dennnis help me out here please.

Never seen a new crank pulley with a wobble maybe you have a bad one [even new]?

Why we use low mile JDM engines and not US domestic high mile junkers.

When you change pulley all you can do is live with results or start from scratch and disassemble engine down to crank and rebuild and balance everything as if it was going to be a unlimited cost race engine.

I've balanced a few cranks and pulleys and flywheels as a system but it takes a day to weight all the rods, wrist pins, pistons and make up fixed weights to emulate them..............then the strobe machine.

well tech thats how i figured it would be. one more example of making a zillion widgets & some are just going to be bad. i can not believe it to be crankshaft related. thanks for your input dennis. am considering having damper doctor rebuild my old one. anyone have 1st hand experience with them?
