the only starting advice i can give you is make it drivable and street worthy and reliable first and foremost.
dont bother with the sohc if your going to swap afterwards anyway. decide what motor you want to run and go with it. dont cheap out on suspension parts, itll come back to haunt you. fix any and all rust as best you can now not later. relocate your fender-well harness now so you dont have to do it later. bushings etc. is good to do but dont buy what you wont need after doing suspension work, its just a waste of cash. get a good clutch for whatever your going to run.

240's are a money pit headache of a vehicle but they are good cars and fun to drive.
