Hey guys I'm Demi and I'm pretty new to the mechanical aspect of car ownership. I bought a 92 s13 with 122k miles on it recently and until now I haven't had the funds to put anything into it but with my hours at GameStop picking up I'm finally able to start working on my car. However like I said before I'm very new to this and don't know a whole lot, I would however like to learn and plan on doing most of the work that I can myself.

One of the first things I'd like to do is change the suspension because I hear that with the stock equipment I wont be able to get all that I can out of the engine, Any suggestions? I've been looking at doing a Tein Super Street Damper with Pillowball upper mount. Would that be good?

And recently I've been looking into doing an engine swap for an sr20det black top. Listed below is the things that I've already looked into getting, if you guys have any suggestions or think there's a better route for me to go, please let me know. Also, if you can think of anything I'm missing to make this a really responsive and powerful street car let me know. Thanks in advance. -Demi

have tein coilovers on my car and they are good, i have the tien HA coils and they arent as stiff as i would like but the handling is pretty good. as far as the motor set a black top is a good choice because its a newer motor than a red top. the biggest thing will be saving money for your future mods, working on cars isnt really that difficult as long as you have he tools to do the job your planning on undertaking. good luck with making it all happen and once you get started start a build thread.

Good to know, good to know. There are so many options and for me it's almost overwhelming since I don't know much about the things. Looks like the Tein's are probably what I'll be going with.

Stance>Tein I know a lot of people that were rocking teins and switched them out for stance.

Quality is better, performance especially when compared to the ancient superstreets is better, customer service is way better, and if there is ever a problem you just have to ship to Illinois not japan land.

Go do some research on them, you'll like what you see i cant stress it enough.

Stance hmm? Never heard of 'em. But this is why I wanted this thread. Thanks man, I'll look into 'em.

So, I looked into the two of them and for the Tein's Super Street with Pillowball it's $1450 and for the Stance GR+Pro is $1495 I don't mind paying the extra 45 dollars for 'em but I can't really tell what the difference in them would be since they both have their own stats grid and both look full to me.

You should be able to get them for cheaper through a vendor. I had a chance to pick up a set of GR+ this summer for 1045.

You want to talk to this guy

id recommend staying with a stage 1 clutch, at most a 2. the stage 3 is goin to be rediculous for a DD. overkill for the most part but also it will make you hate your car at stop signs and stop and go traffic. also i believe there are better radiators than isis for less money.

Okay, so I'll bring the clutch down to stage a stage 1, that'll save me money and maybe I can find a better brand for a better price? And I'll look into the radiators. Thanks.

It's good to see that you want to buy quality parts for your car.

I think you have a pretty good idea of what you want/need. However, $500 for an intercooler is pretty steep. I'm not saying buy a cheap eBay one, but there are quality products availilble at a lower price. That goes for alot of the things on your list. I would do a lot of research before deciding on a purchase. Seeing as you've never even heard of Stance, you definitely need to look into your options. This forum is a good place to hear about a variety of parts for our cars. The aftermarket support for this chassis is huge. Find the product that best suits your needs and budget.

Some aspects of working on cars is extremely easy. If you can turn a rachet and have common sense, it shouldn't be too hard for you to do a lot of things yourself. A lot of people are just too scared to work on their car because they don't want to mess anything up. In reality, it's more like people are too lazy to do the dirty work so they pay someone else. There's a lot of good write-ups on this site that can help you. Use the search button and the tech pages. Good luck and welcome to nico

Lol, there's no way you're gonna get all that done for $5500.

I would budget at least $3000 for the swap alone if you do everything the right way.

At LEAST $3k, work on the swap first then worry about suspension etc.

Thanks StandardP I appreciate the advice and the well-wishes. I know that I need to look into everything a lot more before I start purchasing and that is why I'm here. Yeah, I plan on doing as much of the work as I can but like you said I'm a little unsure of my possible ability to work on my car but I plan on at least trying to do what I can myself.

To AZ and DriftBoy, the numbers don't reflect any cost-of-work. And yes, the number I posted is what I found on jdm. So. I don't know what to tell you. O: As for the suspension after the swap, I always heard it was best to do it the other way. Can anyone else comment?

So its like a .. little win for a big loss?Hmm whats a good emoticon for this one... perfect.

SR's are great motors. They run when they come. And make decent enough power for people. People knock em when they don't got em.

Yeah, I don't really plan on doing anything other than an SR swap. It was either that or an RB and I think the aftermarket support for the SR is way better anyway. In my head my car has never been anything other than an SR swap waiting to happen.
