I've been having an idle issue with my rb20det, decided to compression test it.

cyl1 147cyl2 140cyl3 75cyl4 60cyl5 130cyl6 125

I think it needs a head gasket at a minimum and probably the head resurfaced and the block decked. Probably get the valves checked too. That's really more work and money than I feel like putting into the 20 at this point. I am amazed it ran as well as it did in the condition it is in. 309rwhp.

I just happen to have a newly acquired rb26 long block, r33 crank, port+polished head with the ITB and intake manifold and various other parts. Wiring is messed up and I don't have a transmission for it.

What I'm wondering is can I run the rb26 long block with the rb20 wiring harness if I leave it single maf and single turbo? I'm already running a z32 maf and 600cc injectors plus a hks gt 2530. That turbo is decent size for rb20, but probably too small for 26. It should spool quick though. lolOf course I would have to pay to get it tuned again, but that would happen even if I rebuild the 20.

My other thought is to just bolt everything back up on the 20 and keep driving it until the 26 is ready to go in with its own wiring harness, turbos, etc. But I'm looking at probably a year to go that route, and I don't know what kind of damage I'm doing to the 20 in the meantime. Seems a shame to destroy a baby skyline motor.I would either like to use it in something else or sell it if it's not damaged beyond repair.

Any other options I should consider?

i think the sensors are different and so the plugs won't bolt up.

I know wiring for a R32 with a RB20 changed to a RB26 is supposed to be real easy. I think if you do what you said, run a single maf, then get a ROM tune it should be a really good option. They both have air temp sensors unlike the 25. No VCT. Same style injector clips. I think it's just a matter of swapping a couple injector wires to the ecu. Don't quote me though.

And a resistor I think, not sure though.

Does that R33 crank have the wide oil pump drive on it?

If not, get it collared asap.

Oh yeah, its got the big snout on it already.

I'm going to try and get a machinist to look at the rb26 and see how the bearings and all that look. As soon as I get my engine hoist back I guess I'm pulling the 20 out.

If you do your own wiring look up Paulsskylinegtr website.Has some good wiring info up there.

If not talk to Carl, ask him to convert your harness to support the 26 and you could send him your 20 or 26 ecu for a Tune.Do you have a Single turbo Rb26 manifold?

I was going to send the 26 harness to Carl if I decide to run the twin mafs and turbos. I would need the turbos though. I already did the 20 wiring and I would rather pay Carl to do it than spend the hours it would take to track everything down to do it right for the 26.

I don't have a single turbo exhaust manifold. I was thinking of modifying the stock rb20 one. That would at least get me up and running a little quicker.

I do have the twin turbo exhaust manifolds, but no turbos and it would require some more bucks for the mckinney downpipe. I may be able to sell off the rb20det tomei poncams to offset the cost. I'm not sure my apexi s14 intercooler is big enough for twins. The intercooler piping that came with the gtr motor is huge compared to what I'm currently running.

I want the car up and running, as long as I can have a strong foundation to build on later. However funds are not unlimited. I had planned on taking my time until the 20 crapped out.
