Recently I replaced my engine in my 1989 240sx--with the same motor. While I was at it I swaped out the manual fan for dual electric fans off of a Dodge passenger car (fit like a dream) and ran the fan off of the electric fuel pump fuse. I understand why it diesels when I shut it off (because after the car is shut off the fans act like generators when they keep spinning and gives the fuel pump juice) What I dont understand is now it takes like 2 or 3 long cranks on the starter before it sputters and starts. I dont know if it matters but when i was wiring the motor back up the car wouldent crank over so i put in a push button ignition--and it worked well. Anyways, I was thinking it is the fuel pump but do not know why...could anyone help me---its annoying---embarassing--and makes me wonder if there is mabey a more serious problem w/my car.

thank you,

it may be that the fuel that is still pumping that is making it "diesel" is alos flooding it out making it not fire right away or the other possible senario is the current draw for the fan motor may be absorbing some of the current needed to operate the fuel pump.

It doesn't make sense to me that the fuel pump can cause dieseling. The ECU should no longerbe sending an injector pulse when you turn off the car so the injectors shouldn't be firing regardless of if the fuel pump continues to run at all.
