It's sy-fy, they'll find some way to screw it up. Have faith.

The sexy frosted alien chick looks promising, however.

Yeah, I know they have a habit of taking something that "could" be awesome and ruining it...like SGU.

That would be the poster evidence for screw-ups like that.

BTW- I read something somewhere about a game for the OP? Am I getting old or something? lol

Yes, there's a videogame tie-in for Defiance. I'm kind of baffled that it's a full-price $60 AAA title rather than something approachable like a free-to-play in order to draw in as much of the TV audience as possible. I don't really see there being a huge cross-section of syfy TV viewers/gamers/people who spend $60 on brand new games out there. I expect it to flop. The game itself looks pretty generic aside from the whole "follows the TV series" thing which really only helps if you both watch AND play (again...for all twelve people who will actually do that). Developer Trion Worlds has a pretty good track record (End of Nations and Rift) so maybe it'll get better as time goes on.

As for the show, I love science fiction but HATE the SyFy channel. So much horrid garbage has been crapped out by them. Sure, Children of Dune had some pretty decent production values and casting (James McAvoy was a great Leto II, if ten years too old). But for every Children of Dune you get a dozen shows like Earthsea, which features THE WORST ACTING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE from Danny Glover. It was SO BAD. I didn't think movies could get that bad! And I watched Plan 9 from Outer Space!
Anyway, what I'm getting at is that I expect spectacular suck from this show.

I'm hoping it's not filled with suck. Perhaps they've learned from all of the hate mail they've received for the vast majority of their other works. One can hope...

Yup, it's a full-on MMORPG - watched my friend play the Beta for a while.

It actually looked quite good, gun combat is pretty exciting for an RPG.

The TV show to game link sound gimmicky tho

Anyway, it was kinda sucky. The writers should be fired. The actors read script like it's on a monitor in front of them. Ugh.

It wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't utterly unwatchable either. The script is kinda tired though, outsider shows up in time to solve something and then becomes "sheriff". I wish the battle at the end was a little more in depth/longer. Those battlemech looking things were cool. Hot alien chicks and the brothel has potential as well.

I'd give it a 6. As I say that, I'm forced to consider the rest of tv these days and I find myself wanting in most categories except comedy.

This whole thing reminds me of another show they did called Riverworld. Great promise, mediocre delivery...

It was kinda like No Escape, but with random aliens and historical figures.

I have always wanted Stargate Atlantis to pick back up...

I'm a pretty big Stargate fan.

The movie is one of my favorites movies of all time. Unfortunately I could never really get into any of the series. I wanted to like them more than I did.

I know you said you give it a 6 - I've got Defiance on my PVR ready to watch, but in your opinion is it worth it to give it a go? I'd rather not spend nearly 2 hours on a show premiere if it isn't good/doesn't show promise in future episodes...

Alright, then I'll give it it shot...probably tomorrow, since I'm working late tonight :(

Also, on the subject of sci-fi (sorry for the mini hijack), I'm kinda happy Continuum is coming back for a second season...you watch that?

I have to say that most sci-fi I've seen lately seems to commit only to the TNG approach to things. A whole lot of "office dialogue" and a tiny little bit of action.

In this case, seeing the show again, this one is much better than others. Just wanted to add that. :)

I watched it yesterday and found it a little slow, but it certainly seems worth watching at least a couple more episodes before making up my mind as to if I truly enjoy it or not.
