So I'm on my way home last night after closing the restaurant (about 1-ish), and at about the halfway home mark, a young buck runs out in front of me. Couldn't avoid him, but managed to slow myself down enough that he didn't crush my front end.

He impacted on the passenger side, and rolled across the front to the drivers side. He bent my fender in at the tip, causing it to go up under the headlight. It broke the black shroud around the headlight, and snapped the actuator arm for the pop up motor. His hoof must have hit the bumper cause he knocked a huge chunk of paint off.

The little turd, right as he was being bounced away from my car (i managed to punt him a good 10 feet) slapped my driver side headlight, crunching the cover for the whole assembly.

Got a new headlight for the driver side this morning to gank the actuator arm, and the cover off of. The cover's at the body shop getting sprayed. Tomorrow, i'm gonna drop the car off to get the bumper reshot and clearcoated. I spent the bulk of the afternoon getting the fender bent back out, and getting the passenger side headlight realigned.

The shop saw the car in the condition of picture 1 and quoted me $250 for all the paint, and labor to realigned everything. Maybe they'll knock a bit of that off for getting the headlight back in alignment and bending the fender out

^same thing my Mom said when my Dad hit a deer.

Judging by the damage on the car, the deer made it home to tell all his friends...

he made it home to tell his friends, but i'm sure he limped all the way.

I managed to get down to about 5-10mph before I impacted with him. and being so low to the ground, i basically just knocked his legs out from under him.

your pretty lucky, deer and low cars tend to not end up so good! On the other hand, deer + semi-truck = what deer? (good story!) Anyway, at least you HIT the deer and didn't pull what I did by slamming brakes in a turn when I saw the deer, and sliding off the road into a tree, was a newer driver then. OW!!

I had 3 cross the road in front of me when I was in Arkansas. Going 60 and was on a 4 lane road. Hardly any traffic out. I was in my grandpa's truck 89 chevy 1500. Ended up spinning the truck twice I beleive. Able to miss them and no damage to the truck, was able to keep it on the road being it was 4 lane. That night got home and my cousin had nailed a deer and smashed his front end pretty nice. Luckily it sits high so the deer didn't come up into the windshield.

that was the first thing that went through my head. but my bank account says i can't do it

i'm lucky with what little damage was incurred, but it's still more than I can afford to pay right now. Car payment, insurance, and cell phone are all due today, tomorrow, and yesteryda.

my mom just hit a deer, well it kinda ran into the side of her car while she was driving, but anyways, it destroyed the pasanger window, dented the sliding door in so it cant open anymore, and put a hole in the car back near the tail light.

lol same for me

i almost hit a deer one time but i was going over a stretch where they were working so it was rough grooved pavement and sticking up sewer caps so i was only going like 10mph to begin with when i saw them coming, i stopped and watched them cross. they were huge though so i was lucky.

my question is more of the lines of how stupid is an animal that runs towards the loud, fast light.

glad to hear your'e ok, and the car is fine. that's really a light hit, your'e freakin lucky.

deer are teh suck. hence my healthy obession for having the best lighting money can buy and driving slow at night. that's basically all the precautions you can take (except to not drive at night at all).

damn sorry to hear about that, you got really lucky though, about a month ago I was riding with my friend in his integra, it was raining out and we were going around a 45mph corner on the freeway, and as soon as the corner straightened out a deer ran across the 3 lanes and decided to take a nap on my friends windshield, his front bumper, pass. fender, windershield, and part of his roof was all totalled, then to add to the pain, he slammed on his brakes and a car rear ended him, so pretty much his whole car was fubar'd...but the insurance company didnt total it, he got 3500 to fix it...which I dont know why he just didnt sell for a parts car and get a 240...or some kind of nissan...so yeah consider yourself lucky, still suckes *** though...need to get some of those deer sirens they sell at autozone or somethin..dont know if they work though...good luck with the car...

Man I know how those deers are in your part of VA though man. I used to live outside Radford. Took out many deer. Good thing never have hurt my vehicule. But so far I only hit in my Ranger. It has been lucky. Has taking out 2 deer. Totally killed them both. One ran out in front of me. I stopped and it veried and ran into the side of mytruck at full speed. Snapped its neck. Than last month I had one run out in front of me here in Nashville. and all it did was knock my headlight lose and the signal light. So far the truck has taken out, 2 deer. hit 3 others at really low speeds. 1 cow. Killed 3 birds, and a duck. For some reason the truck seems to attract animals to it.

So far (hope it stays this way) its animal free while I own it
