Key word here is "cheap." I'd like a deeper sound to my exhaust, but Im not sure how to go about it. Ive heard everything from poking a hole in the muffler to getting a y-pipe and other pricey stuff.

Could I poke a hole in the muffler? And where is the intake resonator? I want to take that off.

I'd recommend against making holes in your muffler.

take out exhaust behind cat, buy a cheap muffler, have new piping run and you will have a deeper tone. the best way is y pipe and bolt on exhaust

Unfortunitly these motors just dont really make a deep rumble. However, what i would do for cheap is some kind of cold air induction. Youd be amazed how throaty they make your car.

removal of cross member and 8 bolts. you need a lift though to make this easy.

I beg to differ in the nicest way possible. i've had numerous people confront me about my maxima and the fact that it sounded like a V8 at idle. take off was deep, there was a nice clean tone during cruising, and if i was WOT, you'd crap yourself when you saw it was a V6 maxima dishing out that beautiful sound.

Not always true Check mine out it's got a nice growl to it!

If you want a "deep" rumble you will need to go with Y-pipe and catback exhaust. I did mine low priced Y-pipe included costing me $500 total. Got a Cattman Y from a friend cheap, and then custom exhaust pipe done with resonator / muffler + magnaflow tips.

Otherwise if you want cheap, but good quality. Megan Racing cattback is really nice. It's like a Cattman imitation, and is not loud.

DO NOT poke holes in your muffler. That's just dumb lol. Have fun modding!

a simple cat back with the 3.5 v6 will give you a noticable diff in sound but for best results go with y-pipe and cat back

i just installed cattman y-pipe and am impressed with gains i got now iam looking to do cat back but not sure if custom or just bought ofline would be better anyone have any opinions???
