so i sprayed about half a can of that stuff into the fitting on the back of the planum - like shows in the video - and was expecting a lot of black smoke out of the exhaust but got only some blue and then white smoke...and not much of it. is that right or didi miss something?

another Q is how difficult is it to replace the valve cover gaskets? looks like it might take a while with everything that's attached to the intake. while i'm gonna be down there i should probably retorque everything under the cover...anybody done it before?

Just replaced the valve cover gaskets on my 1995 Nissan. You have to remove the coils but not the plugs. The tricky part is the plenum or upper intake manifold. Be sureyou label all your hoses and electrical connections with tape markersso you can snap it back together. I went ahead and replaced allthe hoses which had difficult access since they were old. The hardpart for me was the bracket bolts on the plenum and the EGR tubebolts close to the firewall.

I also recommend cleaning the IACV which is the large item next tothe throttle body. It tooks five minutes and corrected my idle problem.

I also replaced the seals for the spark plugs and the PcV grommetin the valve cover (easy). Be sure you put them in the right way. On the valve cover, you only want to put theblack sealant in the valve cover groove and install the valve covergasket in the groove. You will need extra sealant along the edgesclosest to the beginning of where the camshaft start. You need toget a Haynes book which shows you how.

Be sure to use a torque wrench on the valve cover-INCH pounds NOTfoot pounds

I would give myself two days so I wouldnt rush it

I put the wrong torque on a bolt and twisted it off so I wasworking on that SPECIAL problem. Otherwise, I would havealso bought some clear engine paint and painted the valvecovers and cleaned the engine up a little better.

Its real easy to want to lay on the wiring harness so get somelong 2 x 4s and fender protection too (scratches).

If you are replacing the EGR valve, give it some WD40 a coupleof days in advance to loosen up the bolts. Check the resistaceof your fuel injectors under the plenum while you are there too.

thanks for all the info. i was actually thinking about pulling the plenum off - should make it easier, shouldn't? plus the gasket under it looks pretty bad so i might as well replace that one. how do i check the injector resistance? do i just stick a probe into the wire connections? what should it be at?

you just put on for the black probe on one and the red on the other...and make sure the meter is on ohms...and I think that when I did mine it read around 10 or 11....But I am not sure...just check like 3 or 4 of them and you will get the general idea of what the inject ohm value must be...

A great way to test the Front injectors is to turn the ride on and let it idle...and then pull the injector plugs out one at a time and listen for the running to start idling rough....if there is a good bit of change in the sound when u unplug it the that injector is good....but if you pull the plug and nothing happens then that means that the injector is bad. (You have to really listen to the engine in order to use this method).

You might want to clean the fuel injectors before you work onthe valve covers. By cleaning I dont mean to pull the injectorsbut to use a cleaning solvent hooked on the fuel rail with a regulatoretc.

My experience is there is water remover and fuel injector cleaner

I have read Techron is the best-but it is expensive relative to the other snake oil out there
