You're not on line, Trig:( . I'm going to Wendy's and I'll be back, in a few. I've already dropped you an instant message. This had better be about getting some women, too. I hate talking about engines while I'm hungry.

i am frustrated right now...got the standalone hooked up and got it to crank yesterday...today i turn the key and all i hear i clicking and a grinding noise....a metal to metal grinding noise....anyone know what that could be i am guessing has something to do with starter...i hope the starter...i am not going to be happy if its internal on the engine

sounds like a bad starter or grinded up flywheel but most likely a bad starter, also make sure your starter bolts are tight if they are loose the starter will grind on the flywheel cause it will be misaligned... a bad alternator will make a howling noise only when the car is running

with a bad alternator your car won't even start, and will eat up the life of your battery. I've seen 4 of our cars have bad alternators all with the same description you have given, if its a clicking noise when turning the key it is possible you have a bad/clogged alternator, if its clogged goody since all you'll really need is to pull it out and clean out the gunk and stuff with brake fluid. Or you can always buy a refurbished one. But best to check your alternator first since that is an easy check just take out the 3 bolts its being held on and check out it.

to me it sounds like the starter thats bad, but if you think it is the alternator hook up a new battery or jump start the car the car should start even if it has a bad alternator then get your voltmeter and hook it up to your battery and you should see over 13v on the meter if you see straight 12v then that means your alternator isnt charging the battery anyways if you have a bad starter the new starter would be from a 84 nissan 200sx turbo

well this is a test you can do if it IS your alternator... you can run your car (if you can) and when its running i believe you unplug the positive side of the battery and it SHOULD keep running, if not then your alternator is busted. but i forgot which one to pull out i'm 80% sure you unplug the positive side and it should keep running...

doing a test like that can fry the ecu cause once you remove the pos+ or neg - wire while the motor is running it'll send a voltage spike

I figured it out...its the starter and the grinding is its grinding against the flywheel...like its not fully ingauging but I will rebuild the starter tomorrow and everything should be good...now i just have to figure out how to idle down the car with the standalone lol its idling at 8000...not a safe thing so needless to say the car has only ran like a total of 10 seconds

:( starter is fine. I will put it back on tonight and crank the car again but there are only a couple things it could be...i just put a spec clutch on so maybe the pressure plate is hitting the bellhousing....i know no one has had this problem but i would rather it be that then a bearing. i will keep ya guys updated on it
