I figured even with one of the best deals out there for the VQ35de in my Z (the VorTech SC IMO).The before and after performance differences are like .6 seconds in the quarter.

is that worth many thousands of $$ and the loss of all powertrain waranty and the constont worries about reliability?

Probabaly not IMO.

I think I can achieve half of the improvement, a $5000 (plus 2k install) SC gives with the following:

Grounding kitHi Flow catsKinetix Plenum (prefer over crawford cuz Kinetix clears the stock strut bar)CatBack exhaustJWT Intake.

Plus if I ever need my warranty back I can always uninstall some of those Mods...

Good choice. I'd go for lesser mods first, and then if you still thirst for expeditious velocities, you could always give in to the S/C craving later on.Besides, you know that Murphy's Law is always against you. If you get the S/C kit and void the powertrain warrantee, you know you'll end up with a bent camshaft or some terrible crap like that which you then get to pay for in cash. Yay!! And if you don't get the kit nothing will happen, so there's two pluses: cheaper initial cost, less inherent damage to your car.

FI is the most efficient Hp for dollar mod you can make. judging from your quartermile times, you can make the most improvement learning to drive it to its limits.

following that, suspension, brakes (fluid/pads/rotor upgrade not brembo), TIRES, TIRES, TIRES, and flywheel/clutch will make it much faster than any of the mods you listed in your post.

about the only performance mods that are cost effective are a K&N panel filter, the plenum and an exhaust system. the exhaust is iffy but you can get some custom work done cheap that will help a little.

grounding kit? 1/0 gauge welding cable is $1.70 a foot around here. you can get 2 gauge for like $1.50 or something. that would be cheaper than the kits eh? is it really good for hp? i always dismissed as being pure bling.

I always thought of grounding kits as BS untill I put one on my G35.

Fred,

May I suggest not wasting money on cat-back and just getting a nice y-pipe. Unless it is the sound you're after.

Im wondering if high flow cats are really worth it......

I kinda doubt it... Usually (almost always) of less quality than OEMs...

Also, you could have someone weld in a pipe with flanges to eliminate the cats and then toss them back in for emissions.....

Kinetix plenum is a aftermarket composite polymeric plenum that can replace the stock plenum (on top of motor were the air gets in).It addresses some issues with the stock plenum not flowing as well for cylinders 1+2 as for the other cylinders.

Supposed to result in a powergain
