Not long after I bought my Q, I backed out of the garage and scraped one of the wheel arches on a pillar. The chrome was scraped and pretty badly dinged, BUT it saved my real wheel arch from damage.

I was worried that removing these would reveal scratches and corrosion, but it was fine. A California car that only saw one day of snow in its life (when I bought it), everything was fine except for a thick layer of dust I could fingerpaint with.

Scraped.

Dinged.

I didn't realize how far these chrome wheel arches stuck out. Now the wheels look flush...

...compared to the other side.

Looks a little sleeker now, and it doesnt draw attention to the stock ride height (I am not lowering it). Otherwise, I did like the chrome.Tomorrow I'll wash and wax.

Sellout!!!

JK... I'll be doing the same thing soon. I had the same exact thing happen on the rear passenger side.

A house-guest visiting from England took it upon herself to move my car into the garage and took out a side post. Guess she wasn't used to big cars or something. My chrome trim looked like an accordian and I ended up with some scrapes and ding on the fender lip, but surpisingly not much more damage. She hit the post hard enough to dislodge the wood planking and cause the garage door to jump off the tracks. Took me a couple hours to fix & repaint. She damaged my near perfect Q and house in one fell swoop. Talk about pissed!!!

Try to find a way to seal up those holes in the fender lip else rust will set in.

What do I seal them with?

That's a good question that I'm still pondering. I'm thinking bondo or something but even that will rust. A non-water-based or oil based sealant of some kind would be optimum. Notice that when the screws are removed, some of holes are pimpled outwards and probably need to be sanded down with a dremel or small disc sander. Being that they are in a pretty inconspicuous location, I'd think that it can be sanded, sealed with something and touch-up paint used to finish the job. When my trim was installed, a couple of the screw holes were drilled into the outer-most edge of the lip instead of underneath where they belonged.

JESDA: Are those Fittipauldi wheels? Sure look like the ones I have on my 92Q, both of us needing to have them re-finished! I intend to have this done when I re-tire. Any thoughts whether this re-do should retain the alum finish, or, could one have them chromed? I would even go for a owl**** color if it would make them easier to clean!

Why yes they are! I picked up the set on ebay for $50 with some old (but useable w/half tread) Yokohama YK420s. Theyre getting close to the wear bands, at which point I intend to ditch the tires and paint them.

I wonder what these BBS-style wheels are like in chrome? I only see them in bright silver and gold. For chroming, I'd take them to a professional for dipping.

If you're going to Florida, just go to Tampa! I never thought I would be happy to pay $20 to get into a place where I couldn't buy a drink and couldn't smoke anything. However, Mons Venus was the highlight of my batchelor party!

Car looks 100% better, I was definitely not a fan of the chrome.

I can't believe you got those wheels so cheap. How much does it cost to chrome a set of wheels versus just powdercoating them silver?
