I'm looking to wall mount a bluetooth soundbar above the tv in the living room. The computer with all the music on it is in the office which shares a common wall with the living room so there's not much distance between them. The household budget doesn't allow for a lot of money to spend but I do want fairly decent music sound quality out of it. Not professional quality, just nice enough to use for background music while entertaining or just vegging without the tv on.

What would you consider a decent soundbar in the $50 - $75 range? Does such an animal exist or are all of the soundbars in that price range really poor?

I've honestly never been impressed with sound bars personally... that being said I haven't REALLY looked at them for 5 or so years.
I've always been a "no replacement for displacement" guy when it comes to speakers.
I've got twin Cerwin Vega 12" woofer floor standing speakers with twin Yamaha 10" bookshelf speakers on top of that in my living room. Hits hard, isn't muddy, sounds great all the damn time, covers up my ugly walls.

That being said, I wouldn't mind picking something up for the TV in my room, so I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this thread.

Well, we needed the speaker system by tomorrow night so we went over budget and bought one today. Costco had the Yamaha ATS-1070 on sale for $119.99.

Very easy to install and hook up, it has decent sound. It's not what I would term professional sound but it's adequate for what we need. Definitely not the rich quality sound of the $300 Bose soundbar on display near it.

I hate it when websites don't list specifications like frequency range, harmonic distortion, etc.
Glad you're happy with it. Yamaha is usually pretty good.

Maybe this will help you some. Most of that information is here at CNET

Yup. That's much better.
60hz low frequency limit is a little weak, but I guess what do you expect out of a sound bar...
