Came across these guys http://www.xenoneyes.com/index.php and looks like a decent price with free shipping and $15 off with coupon code NTPOG.

I'm reading that doing a conversion is illegal though, but there are things you can do like take out the reflector to make it not shine so crazy. I'm sure someone has done a conversion and can offer tips.....

There's nothing you can do to modify a kit to make it legal. If a kit has not passed DOT certification testing, it will not be legal. Period.

And I don't know of a single HID kit that has passed said certification.

Actually, that's a pretty nice price (considering it's NOT bi-xenon which has a "bright" function). As far as the conversion, it is illegal, yes. BUT it generally will not cause a cop to chase you unless you're speeding or doing doughnuts on the freeway...

I love my kit: 6000K conversion with a single xenon function (what you're looking at) and I have to say that I feel like I was blind before! Yes, you may piss off a couple people here and there, but for the most part, I haven't had any negative reactions so far. The trick is mounting the ballasts... It can be done relatively easy by connecting each ballast [respectively] to the frame right next to the alternator and intake.

My say is that you should NOT do the conversion if you live in a city, but in the burbs it makes a pretty significant change.

And I was thinking I would get the bi-xenon. I guess that's not really needed? I just know my wife has the fancy HIDs on her Acura TL and my eBay 6000k bulbs are just poser. LOL

I guess I'll give that place a shot and just get the single kit. Does that mean I would NOT have hi-beams then?

I also didn't mean there was something I could do to make it "legal" but draw less attention. I'm not a ricer and don't drive like a complete douche (just partially). I had read that the people take the little parabolic reflector thing out to cut down on how bright the bulbs are or just how they reflect the light. Or am I nuts?

No, unfortunately you will not have hi-beams, but between you and me, it doesn't even matter...

The parabolic reflector is the only thing keeping the bulb from reflecting upwards as if it were a high beam bulb. Our headlights are originally designed for a standard bulb which has an elongated filament based illumination point (a line towards the front of the bulb) with a hi-beam that is a smaller, higher concentrated filament based illumination point towards the back so as to reflect from the upwards facing reflectors with greater intensity.

In other words, do not remove the reflector, you will blind everyone... Hope that helps!

Thanks for the info. Sounds like a pretty straight forward mod. I was checking eBay and there are some sellers with decent ratings and prices ~150 for bi-xenon kits.

Why not just go with a set of generic HID's like I did. I paid $100 from a local distributor, but you can find sets on ebay for around $80 or so. Here's a link to a how-to thread I made for the Altima's: zerothread?id=293744 I think some of the info and driving impressions may swing you guys the same way.

I did get a generic kit from eBay. I found a guy that was local and had good feedback. Looking forward to getting them.

This might sound like a stupid question, but why did you go through the wheel wells to install these?

The VQ motor in the Altima is jam packed in the engine bay. There is absolutely no room to access the back of the headlight housings via the bay. On the newer Alty's, you have to go through the wheel well or by removing the bumper.
