So lets say you bought this really cheap ebay harness. You just gone done installing it and went for a drive. Well then some negligent driver has a head on crash with you. You value saving a couple bucks on a really cheap harness, more than your life?
Buy a brand name or peruse a NICO Sponsor for a harness.

Says who? Some people have sr20's or built for track day DD's. I like having the security of harnesses. It actually straps you in and holds you tight. Anyone with good suspension and likes to take turns fast w/o drifting or loosing traction usually really appreciates harnesses.wynnEZ wrote:Shouldn't even have a harness in a daily driver.
If you want a harness you need to install a cage. Factory seatbelts are designed to let you roll forward in the event the roof gets crushed. A harness will not. This can cause grevious injury or death!!! Use factory belts or cage and harness, there is no safe middle ground. Properly set up a harness will provide exceptional safety, improperly it can make injuries much worse. Just because you saw someone with a certain set up in their car does not make it safe.240sx_ch08 wrote:

you just proved his point by saying they aren't taking it serious. if they were, then they would realize the need for a properly set up restraint system that includes both harness and cage.240sx_ch08 wrote:There is millions of 'what ifs' and using a roll over is a kinda scapegoat. But most people don't install cages into their 240 seeing as it is used mainly as a DD and they do not take track events or drifting serious enough to install a cage.
just because they lock up doesn't mean you're stuck there. you can roll your body around the shoulder harness enough to prevent a crushed roof from killing you if you needed to.240sx_ch08 wrote:And tell me if I'm wrong but during an impact or sudden braking the seatbelt seizes not allowing you to move period. So... You're not going to be able to really move either way.
OK- we are not discussing how sole track cars are set up. He is asking if harnesses can be used on his DD. YES. They can be. WITHOUT A CAGE. You do not need a cage to have a harness. 90% of people are not doing extreme activities to completely FLIP a 240.numbnuts240 wrote:you just proved his point by saying they aren't taking it serious. if they were, then they would realize the need for a properly set up restraint system that includes both harness and cage.

Very few people intend to roll their car. It happens accidentally and can be fatal at legal speeds on the highway. I'm not just making this stuff up. I worked EMS for 4 years and saw plenty of people seriously hurt and worse who never thought of driving aggressively. And some who survived because of properly set up safety gear. If you modify the safety equipment in a car you should be sure, without a doubt that you are making it better.240sx_ch08 wrote:

Secondly show me a person who has the body strength to move against the force of a rolling vehicle. If you are talking about once a vehicle has rolled and is then stationary you fail. You can completely release yourself from a harness more quickly and easily than a stock seatbelt.
So stop arguing about this.
