I have 2 240's one a 89 ka24e and 90 ka24de. My question being that I am sick of the hud, I hate it as much as I love it, and it doesnt work on either car (go figure). The help that has benn offered on the faq page is great, but I am going to mo0ve on. My question is whether or not a cluster with reg, guages can be used to replace the hud and it electronic nightmare. If so will iot directly connect and work and if not what is different. Will trial and error guide my way or has anyone done this before.:( thanks

yes it can, i have a 90 analog usdm cluster, which is what u need for the ka24e, did u swap the de in the 90? you also need the harness that connects the cluster to the wiring, that i dont have.

The 1990 de has a blown head so no swap waiting for sr20, the running car is the 89 e. Both have digital and both dont work. The only difference is that the running and driving e cuts out the fuel if the guages arent on, which is y I cant take it anymore. So I should get a 90 analog cluster which should I get it off of and what else would I need. Are they direct fit or complex. I can figure it out bu any thing else you can offer would be great. Thanks for replying

no only 89-90 analog fits 89-90 cars. and the 91-94 as well, my cluster and a harness that connects the cluster to the main harness is what u would need

^ I would try that before you do a dash swap.

I have the same problem, but not as bad...my hud lights up when ever my engine gets to a certain temperature. Then it cuts on, but is 5 miles fast. (at idle it reads 5 mph). I think what i might do is just get a seperat speedometer gauge and a pod for the dash. That would probably be the less expensive solution.

What has been said and the struggle with words is exactly what has been going on in my head. I dont wanna spend 200 dollars for a nonperformance item, but I dont wanna lose the h.u.d. I also swear that if I try to pass a truck going 70 mph and the stupid fuel cut happens again I am going to shoot someone, someone real ugly. My gauge lights also go on and off with the hud but not at the same time. It looks like freakin christmas in my car with all the flashing lights. So quiksilvia, All i need is the harness that is connected to the analog guages and plug them into the harness i have, bolt it all back together and all will be well. Or is there more, a half hour sounds good to me.

I swapped my HUD out yesterday with the cluster from my front clip. Took about 1/2 hour. You just have to swap the cluster and the sub harness as stated above. Just remember that if you have the SOHC engine, you will need a tach from the same motor. Same goes for the DOHC, need a tach for a DOHC.
