Dear Chuck Norris,

Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their "legislature" should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between church and State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.

Sincerely,
Thomas Jefferson

I will have to print it out and take some time on my break to read it. I would also caution that 'wall of separation' that people so keenly point out with Thomas Jefferson was a bit skewed during his service to this country.

Let me refine my comments by saying, our view of the Wall of Separation is a bit skewed from Jefferson’s. What I wanted to really drive out of my comments is that the view that religion has no place/should stay out of politics aka ‘Wall of Separation’ was interpreted much later in our country’s history. Our country has a rich history of commingling Judeo Christian religions into almost every aspect of our government and thus confusing what true orthodox Christian religion is. While as a Christian, I detest this ‘State Religion’ (a bastardized version of Christianity, mixed with Egalitarianism, but predominantly Western style Christianity) religion, you have to acknowledge the role it has played in the founding of this country. We also have to give credit to the “Second Great Awakening” for really mucking things up.
