Saturday I was supposed to get the illuminated kick plates installed. I show up at the dealership and they tell me it will be a four hour install, but they will only charge me the 2 hours I was quoted. I asked why it would take so long. The woman explained that the mechanic had installed one the other day ( the first one they did) and they could not get the illumination to work, ended up having to put a harness in that required the removal of a good part of the dash board. She then said - you sure you want to do that.. as soon as the dash is taken out once, it can start squeaking and the like. I ended up telling them no, I didn't want them. It seemed like her whole point was to try and talk me out of the service. What gives? Is my dealership that inexperienced, or did they feel like they would be losing too much on my install?

Sounds like they are inept. There are DIY thread here on how to install the illuminated kick plates for the first gen Rogue. Can't imagine it is very different for your Rogue. If you order the kit yourself it comes with the same instructions the Nissan techs would use.

Yeah, they don't have a clue. I had the Homelink mirror, rear chrome bumper guard, and the kick plates installed in about 3.5 hours. And I haven't had any squeaking, or the like!

The kick plates should install in no time. I installed the external ground lighting myself and it only took 2 hours. The kick plates should be a cake walk. The mirror is a cake walk too. Here are the instructions for the kick plates, the kick plates shouldnt take longer than a hour to install tops: https://www.nissan-techinfo.com/asistgc ... C1UG12.PDF

Just take your car to a Nissan dealership that has installed this add-on item a few times. This will ensure willingness from the dealership to install the product and proper installation.

Yes, there are two other Nissan Dealerships in the area. I think I will contact them to see if they feel it can be done with out taking apart the dashboard.. lol (WTF). I did send an email to my dealership's service manager with the directions, and asked him to help me understand how it could take his tech 4 hours and taking apart the dashboard. I also asked him how I was supposed to have confidence in said technician when it came to routine maintenance.
