dealership synthetic oil change for $60

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

So our local Infiniti dealership is charging $39.99 for regular oil and $89.99 for synthetic. So I asked them if I can bring my own oil and they are ok with it. Walmart full synthetic Penzoil Platinum 6qts cost me $30 and Infiniti charges $29 for the labor and oil filter. So I paid $60 for the whole thing and the service is documented since I have 93k /5years extended warranty that I bought from NJ lady. No messy oil to work with and dispose.

They are charging $60 for the dual air filter too and I gladly say no thanks! =)
The last time I bought those filter online cost only $19 each and very easy to replace.

That doesn't sound like a bad deal.

I wonder if your dealer uses the special Nissan synthetic oil in the $90 oil change service? I don't remember how much that stuff actually costs, but I wouldn't be surprised if they substituted it with a lower cost synthetic like you did.

what special Nissan synthetic? Nothing gets better than Mobil 1 or Castrol euro blend.

Our local dealership uses Mobile 1 synthetic oil for $90. I heard that Mobile 1 is not really 100%. Synthetic. I also prefer Penzoil Platinum Full synthetic oil. BTW, there is a newer Penzoil engine oil that Ferrari cars use and it's called " Penzoil Ultra" synthetic. I hope our local Walmart store carries it soon.

The "special" oil would probably be Nissan ester oil which is a specialty blend. I doubt it's what most service departments are using as it comes at a higher price than even synthetic.

Oh horse manure! Both Mobil 1 and Castrol euro blends are fully synthetic. Nissan is just rebooting one or the other and charging rubes twice as much.
