The Dealer just told me I need to change the CVT fluid and filter in the 2019 Rogue AWD JN8AT2MV1KW395419. It has 72k miles on it and seems to be operating perfectly. They want to put rear pads on it and turn the rotors at a ridiculous price, change out the brake fluid for another ridiculous price, and do a fuel system service. $1253.91. I'm thinking I'll let them do the transmission and I'll do the rest. I have 16 years in USAF Vehicle Maintenance, 4 years Aircraft maintenance and 18 years as a US Navy civilian mechanic as well. Brakes, brake fluid changes I got tools for that. I have done numerous GM Automatic Trans fluid and filter changes, not to say Nissans are the same. There are no recalls on this car.

My experience is not as robust.

Just a weekend mechanic.

I have 14 years nissan rogue forum self-taught repair skills.

YouTube repair knowledge skills.

Googled repair knowledge.

But I have done everything that your dealership wants done.

Except I have never turned my rotors but instead just replaced them with new ones.

14 year old original cvt still running smooth as butter.

Seriously, you can do the transmission or change the cvt fluid with your background with no problem. :slap:

Agreed, with your resume, should be easy to do all that’s listed from the dealer.
Buy 4 qt NS3 from the dealer and do the cvt fluid yourself, refill with the amount drained.

I’m not a mechanic but have been doing all basic maintenance myself and saved a lot of money over the years.

If you are an aircraft technician I see no reason why you couldnt do it.

The CVT maintenance needs to be done ASAP.
72k is too long even by dealers book ( and that has often been critized as not being nearly proactive enough, most members on here do it every 30,000 to 40,000 miles, CVTs need good fluid much more than regular Transmissions do as the acts as the clutch.)

Also with CVTs it is even more important to get the exact amount of fluid back in or it WILL, not might, but will, get severe damage from over or underfulling.

Over 1k for that? First off, don’t let them turn the rotors or they’ll more than likely develop a pulse sooner rather than later. Just do a pad slap since the rears wear out much faster than the fronts. When the fronts need replacing I’d recomend doing all 4 corners with new rotors. I started using EBC rotors and bendix copper free pads and couldn’t be happier.
I’ve never understood the brake fluid interval with Nissan…20k? I do change my fluid but it’s when I do pads and rotors, every 40k regardless. As far as the cvt goes, you can easily do it yourself. If you have a gauge that measures cvt temp, if not, buy a cheap instant read meat thermometer on Amazon or elsewhere.

Go to Walmart and buy a couple gallon drink pitchers.
Drain the old into 1 and fill the other with the exact same amount.
I like to take a 5 mile drive before draining.
Once the temp of the old matches the temp of the new from setting, add your fluid.

If you’ve got a scanguage there’s plenty of vids online how to do it. I just did my 21 this weekend and it appears mine was under filled a bit from the factory. I also spilled some which required me to set the level at 114 degrees using my trans temp and leveling bolt. My son has an enclave and was quoted $700 for a transfer case and rear diff service. $36 of amsoil 80w90 and an hour later and he was done. I’d also do the diffs in your rogue if you haven’t done them. They hold next to no fluid and take a beating. I do mine every 30- 40k using amsoil as well. None of this is really technically advanced, just nuts and bolts and time.

I’d also add that you don’t need to pay the kings ransom for cvt fluid from the dealer.
Napa sells plenty of fluids that meet Nissan spec and are probably the blender for Nissan.
Eneos Nplus is around $11 a quart and specifically made for Nissan ns3.
Idemitsu ns3, which I just used in my 21 is $13 a quart.
Valvoline at Walmart covers the ns3 spec and is less than $10 a quart.
My favorite is eneos eco cvt for $14 a quart. It uses a superior base stock and quilted down my 2018 and helped with the stupid in town, (25mph) vibration that cvts are famous for.
