Ok, I went into a dealership and wanted them to check my clutch and figure out why my car starts up so slow. And they charged me $110 for the checking the clutch and $60 for checking why the car starts up slow. Are these prices normal and are they supposed to charged you even though there isn;t anything wrong with it? This is my first time to dealership for checking problems on my car. Any comments please.

The charges seem normal to me. Even though they didn't find a part to sell you they did spend time looking for something to replace.

The service manager should have spent some time with you and explained what they checked for and made sure your were comfortable before you left.

How long did they have your car? $170 will cover about 2 hours of shop time.

It all depends on where you live-- a dealership in LA, NY or Boston will charge you 90-140 per hour, in Oklahoma City 85-100 and where I live about 25-60, depending on where in the city you go. I stray from dealerships as the prices are inflated. 2 hours of checking your car would be about $150-250 in the US. I've learned to go into the smaller towns where prices are generally 50-70% of larger city prices and the quality is just as good.

They went over with what the costs of just taking a look at the car but to me it just seems a lot of money for just test drivin the car and checking the motor.

It was still probably cheaper than going to a doctor & having him or her take 5 minutes to stick their finger in your butt to check your prostate & send you a bill for a few hundred

have no idea, just left the car there and took their rental. I think one of the tech. drove it to see what is wrong with the clutch. They told me I needed a new clutch and battery. Brand new clutch is around $1100 parts and labor.

not in Canada. We are lucky here to have free prostate check.

close your eyes open and insert.

hehehehe

to answer the question. I think it is ok. I am not really sure about the labor here but if I can recall it is 80/hr. I think it is low because it is a Nissa/Infiniti service. They charge the same amount for both cars.

If you have a Nissan dealer near by, I would call them for an estimate.I prefer dealing with Nissan.
