Dealership loaners g37x, horrible handling

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

My car was at the dealership for 2 days here in NY. I was given a g37x loaner car well driving to work the yesterday at 40mph on the slushy highway as people are flying by me, the rear wheels started to skid and that was the end, the car went across 3 lanes of traffic, and slammed into the divider. My EX would have never done that. The dealers claim I was the 3rd person to call in an accident that day!

What's going on with Infiniti giving out crap base models, every other luxury car dealer gives you somehthing comparable or better than the car you bring in(i'm sure it's an effort to have you trade up for your next purchase)

1. sorry to hear about the accident. hope everyone is well.2. how do you know for a fact that your ex would not have done that.3. it's pretty well known with simple physics that any factory g35/7 will handle better than any factory ex will. again, simple physics.4. how is a g37x a crappy base model?5. how is the g37x not comparable to your ex? if anything, i'd say you got a model up.

not trying to give you a hard time but perhaps taking a second look @ it you might see things differently.

I'm not so sure that would be the case in his scenario. Real wheel drive G35/7 will definitely have potential to not handle as well as AWD EX in a slushy snow that he was in. This is purely hypothetical though, as he was driving an AWD model.

Tires may be a factor here, also. I have replaced the Michilens on my EX with Nokian WR's, and it has made a great improvement.

Don't forget there isonly one thing between your car and the ground and that is the tire. If your tire is crappy you can have the best car won't save you. Myself when I've get in a rent/loaner always try to find its limit somewhere safe. So I won't end up doing funky things when I drive on the road.

how do we know that what he described is actually what happened? why wouldnt other similar cars have the same problem on this road? as they are 'blowing by'?. I am not buying it. also not buying the other comments about physics regarding the g vs the ex both in awd in normal driving.

The car could have hit some deeper slush and did the equivalent of a hydroplane when you hit a big puddle of water. Most people's reaction is a big lift throttle and/or hit the brakes. If the rear end is already starting to rotate this reaction can induce a snap spin. It can all happen so fast that the stability system has no chance of helping you.

Another thing that gets people in trouble in the slick stuff is lift throttle induced oversteer. The car gets loose or the driver gets scared while turning and lifts off the gas.

let's break down the facts first before we flame him (although flaming on the internet is always fun right guys? lol)

Where in NY were you driving, around what time?

depending on those two answers 40MPH could either be very fast or mediocre,

i would say jmess' comment is the biggest possibility. The car probably hydroplaned

Sorry to hear about the accident. Regarding loaners, with an Audi A6 2.7T the standard loaner was an A4 - usually the previous year. And with our X3 the standard is a 3 series - again the previous year typically. I have had salesmen offer me a chance to drive a "nicer" car for the day but not as a service loaner - always as a favor. I would be happy with a G37x as a loaner so long as it had appropriate tires on it. I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with that car unless the tires were worn or summer tires or the VDC was switched off / broken. My bet is on tires if the cause was with the car.
