Summary : She's been driving for 8 days without oil b/c the dealership forgot to put the oil cap back on and b/c my sister "didn't think any thing of it."

So after the Patriots lost, my father tells me that the Versa is dripping oil. He shows me the oil spots and tells me that the dealership must of forgot to tighten the oil drain. I asked him when did he take it for the oil change and he said a few days ago. I opened the hood to check the oil level and when I reached for the hood pole thing I felt oil. WTF! There's oil everywhere!

I got a flashlight b/c the hood was blocking the driveway lights and no oil cap. By this time my voice is raised beyond a comfortable level and started "asking"(more like yelling) questions. I know that no one drives the car except my little sister and my dad just do the maintance for her (and by maintance I mean taking it to the dealership). So I "asked" her if she noticed anything wrong. She said she just smelled oil and didnt think any thing of it b/c she thought it was from the oil change.

I check the reciept from the oil change and it was dated Jan 25! She's been driving for 8 days without oil b/c the dealership forgot to put the oil cap back on and b/c my sister "didn't think any thing of it." I called up the dealership to leave a short, straight to the point voicemail to deal with this mess.

God I pissed off right now(at both my sister and the dealership). Any advice appreciated.

Firstly and most importantly, do not "blow up" at the dealer. Or your sister. Mistakes happen, and your sister obviously isn't mechanically inclined. Now is a good time to teach her some basic steps to follow whenever getting an oil change (ALWAYS check oil level, and ensure the cap is tight). If the oil light never came on, you may be lucky enough to not have had any engine damage. I would make your case with the dealer, and request an extension on your powertrain warranty (after all, they did screw up, and their mistake could have shortened the engine life). So, they're responsible for;

1) Oil cap and free oil change2) Extend powertrain warranty to 100,000 miles 3) pressure wash engine bay

Sound reasonable?

Some people pay big money to have their cars "Oiled" under the hood to prevent rust. Your sister got the job done for free.

You might want to teach your sister to watch the dealer actually service the car, if possible. My dealer has a large window in front of the oil change bay so the customer can watch. The mechanic seems very serious knowing someone is watching. The technician adds oil by dialing the amount in and pulling the nozzle handle. Guess it comes from a big barrel in the ceiling. HAHA

I left the dipstick out one time and got the same results, oil loss.
