Forum readers, My dealer is suggesting 'Throttle Body Service' which is cleaning the front and back of throttle plate for $89.95. Is this bulls*** or not??? Also is the engine air filter hard to change?...Dealer wants $32.00 to change it. Thanks for your opinions and advice!!!

Are you saying that changing the engine air filter is easy to do myself or should I have done by dealer. My Versa is 2008 with about 15K on it.

Changing the engine air filter is an easy process. Just pop open the box, slide out the frame, take out the filter, put in the new one, slide it back in and close the box.

u can also clean the throttle body yourself with the appropriate cleaner from the dealer. fyi i never cleaned the throttle body on my 2002 sentra and i put 275000kms on it until the precat finally ruined the engine.

$32 to change the air filter on your Versa?!! that's robbery!! the process takes about 2mins.

I paid $30 Bux for my Filter alone from the dealer. So if you are paying $32 installed that is fairly good.

$30 bucks for an engine air filter is a reasonable price, even if you buy one some place else it won't be much cheaper, and to have it installed too for that price is very reasonable.

if you don't know how easy an air filter is to put in, have your dealer do ithonestly though, dealers are kind of high priced, but we do good work, couldn't tell you how many times we've gotten problem childs that were "fixed" at other shops, that are usually simple fixesair filter is easy to put in, just unclip the filter box and change out the filters, then reinstall

$30 for a car air filter is horribly high. You guys are in Canada? I'm in the US. I haven't priced one yet, for my Versa 1.8, but I am expecting them to be less than $10. I was only paying $4.99 for new air filters for my 85 Chevy Caprice, before I got rid of it last year. Inflation must be taking off.

im sure prices vary from state to state "Conversation" but here in Az, air filters are $20 - $23 at the dealership im at. Im sure youll be paying about the same if you change your own on ur Versa.

AS for the "Throttle Body service" (sometimes referred as Fuel injection service) is good to do every 30K miles. Thats a heck of a deal. Ours is about twice as much but we do air intake & throttle body service, fuel injection service & in tank cleaner.

If you can change the Air Filter yourself, you can get it at lubes-n-filters.wboil.com for around $12.00 + shipping. As usual it is always a ripoff at stealership.

Previous 01sentra, sold w 313000km, running great, passed emissions test.
Never serviced injectors, nor fuel filter [don't think it has one!].
Never touched by dealership, though they wanted to...
Was DIY or local independent shop!

I bought an engine filter at Canadian Tire last September and changed it myself.

Recently I bought an in cabin filter from a US online company. I ordered a few and one for the SE-R. Four filters, with shipping to Canada and the exchange rate cost me $42 CDN :) THat's about $10 each filter.

I took the glove box out myself and changed it.

Dealership wanted $45 for just the filter ... Talk about a rip off !!! At least when I do it myself, I'm learning how to do it, and I know it's getting changed!
