Dealer Service History Records?

I checked with my local Infinity dealer to determine the dealer service history on my '91Q. I gave them the VIN number for my car. They told me that they had no service records for the car. He indicated that the database deletes records from the system if no service work performed by the dealer has been recorded for something like 8 years. Has anyone else run across this?

Also, is there a way to determine the date of manufacture from the VIN number?
