I found out about this on an oil-specific forum started by some guy named Bob and thought it was worth sharing with my Q brethren.

Pennzoil has a rebate at Walmart through 8/31. Buy a $20 5 quart jug and get a $15 Walmart gift card rebate. These rebates are available via a tag on the 5 quart jugs, and appear to be hit or miss by store. Two per household/person/address.

There's also a rebate good through 11/30 for a $15 rebate check by mail on the purchase of five quarts - so same deal but you get a check instead of a Wallyworld gift card. http://www.pennzoil.com/docume...m.pdf One per household/person/address.

I have traditionally been a Mobil 1 guy, and still haven't decided if I'll make the jump for the Q and G, but the Frontier has enough oil already stashed in the garage for well into the next decade. The used oil analysis results have been mostly favorable for those that have had it done... and the more I read over at Bob's forum the more confused I get. The consensus seems to be that the two oils (M1 vs. PP) are fairly comparable. You'd never believe how opinionated folks can be about oil but a running theme seems to be that if you're not stretching your OCI too long, most any oil will do.

Pennzoil seems desparate to get rid if what I cosider is an inferior product.

However much of my feelings have to do with history and the problems of the 70's and 80's amd 90's.

Often a make it cheap mind set never goes away.Kind of like Chrysler and a Lexus.

Pennzoil bought Quaker State in 1998. Royal Dutch Shell bought Pennzoil in 2002. Both Quaker State and Pennzoil oils are now core Shell products.

The question is did they keep old scientists and management or clean house,

ONLY RIGOROUS SCIENTIFIC TESTING will tell you the truth.

Kind of my impression of Pennzoil in general. I really don't know anything about this particular product, the company's history is not stellar.

I don't have any strong opinion about them, although I heard that there were issues in the "old days" with sludge, etc.

All of the oil analysis that I have heard mentioned on the BITOG forum was for used oil, but apparently it looked very comparable to M1 and in some cases better.

I suspect that at a minimum it's better than any coventional oil that I would get for $1/qt and run in my truck... but like I said, I'm probably not ready to jump off of the M1 ship for the G and Q.

Penz Platinum is probably 100 times better than what goes into your car when you take it to the dealer and get an oil change. While not my oil of choice, I would certainly use it before alot{almost all of them} of other oils on the shelf at the local chinamart. For 1$/quart it is a no brainer and best buy, even a steal!!!! Load up.

I really dont think it matters much what oil you use if you change it every 3 months, so this is a good deal for me!!
