Here's another update. Seems as if the problem is more wide-spread than initially thought. I don't care which company you like / dislike. This sucks.

I detail cars for a rental company and had to remove the driver mats from the yotas we have. I said from the beginning that it wasn't a floor mat problem, but something in the go pedal. All cars have floor mats, but only yotas were accelerating out of control, give me a break. And I agree that the media overreacted, like they do with just about everything.

In my experiance prius owers are suicidal, I took a trip to alabama with a friend to help him get some stuff from his parents house, and on the way there(little over 4 hrs) I had 3 different priuses try to smear themselves on the front bumper of my very large, very loud diesel truck. All three of them waited untill I was only a few feet away from passing them to just yank the steering wheel and get in front of me, only one gave me a signal, but it was after he was in my lane. As soon as I got the chance, I left all 3 of them a cloud of black smoke to choke on as I thundered past them.

Should've accelerated sooner. The world could use less Priuses.

The thought did cross my mind, I just didn't want to have to scrape the mash of prius and tree hugger off the front of my truck.

The problem is electrical. From abc newsToyota executives had insisted in November that the recall of the floor mats in certain models and a proposed redesign of the accelerator pedal would fix the problem.

Reports of possible electronic problems or on-board computer glitches were strongly denied by the Toyota executives. "There is no evidence to support these theories," said Bob Daly, a Toyota executive.

But the continued reports of runaway Toyotas since the November recall have shaken the company's firm denials.

In another case, in New Jersey, a Toyota owner was able to make it to a local dealer with his car racing out of control, even though his foot was not on the gas pedal and the floor mats were not involved.

Kevin Haggerty, a salesman from Pittstown, New Jersey, said he had seen an ABCNews.com report about how to control a car experiencing unexpected acceleration -- by shifting into neutral.

With his brakes smoking, and the engine racing, Haggerty summoned a Toyota manager to witness what was happening with his car.

Haggerty says after consulting with Toyota, the local dealer replaced the gas pedal and throttle and their sensors.

I'd probably want a new car after the engine had been redlining the piss out of itself for long periods of time. Not to mention he cooked his brakes.

That is exactly what I was thinking when I read it papasmurf. I'd have them replace the whole drive train.

While the car is flooring it in Neutral in front of a manager. I'd point to another car on the lot and say" give me that instead of this Suicide machine."

A few days ago, a Lexus RX300 or 330 exited the highway right by my work and then drove up an embankment and rammed into a large highway sign base. Car was destroyed. The front bumper of the car was at the windshield. Driver died. As far as I could tell no other cars involved. Guy(64) could have had a heart attack or something but maybe Lexus has some 'splainin' to do.Based upon the configuration of the roads where the car ended up, I don't think the person writing the article actually saw the scene. http://www.star-telegram.com/l....html

I'd point across the street to a BMW.

Wait, did anyone see that Toyota recalled 2.3 million vehicles for a "gas pedal" issue? HMM?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/201...ecall

The truth comes out. Although they are saying it's affecting Toyota's.. something tells me they are 'covering it up' on the Lexuses to not tarnish that brand's reputation

First time I heard about this was like 2 months ago. An off duty cop down in San Diego was driving with his family in a Lexus. Gas peddle floored it and they all died. Of course they blamed the floor mats. So Lexus is being recalled too. Although you are right they just say Toyota recall to save the name. It's good to drive Nissan now. I bet altimas and g35 will be flying off the lots soon.
