Just picked up a copy of this game, it's fantastic! I was playing it at 3 in the morning sitting here and got creeped out something terrible. Kinda reminds me of the first time I played Resident Evil and those zombie dogs jump through the window.

I played the demo and did not like it at all. The interface was really neat, but the gameplay itself was very sloppy. Controls were clunky and sloppy and the weapons felt really unrefined. I also strongly dislike the stupid over-the-shoulder 3rd person view.

That over the shoulder view does take some getting use to from the norm but after a hour or so it wasn't a problem, I actually kinda like it now...something different you know.

Different?! EVERY SINGLE console shooter uses the over-the-shoulder view. ALL OF THEM.

Not bad. Never really scared me, but the story (if you read the comic, watch the online movies and all that) rocks. The gameplay is ok, but the repetetion of levels is a dated mechanic. It was a great experience and the hinted sequal will be a must play for me.

As far as scary, nothing will scare me like Silent Hill 2. Best of the series by far. I have never been filled with so much dread when playing a game. And Doom 3. Game scares the crap out of me to this day.

You need to play System Shock 2. There's an atmospheric scary game. Damn ghosts!

Remember the game is supposed to be a Thriller/Horror shooter. If your character could move as fluidily as say a character from GRAW or some other pure action shooter, it would lose some of the tension, the fact that you move so clunky-ly adds to the atmosphere. Because some of the enemies are fast than you so running away isnt an option, you must cut off their limbs to level out the playing field.

Weapons felt unrefined??? I dont even know what to say here, consider Dead Soace had the best weapons of any shooter last year? Unrefined.....Contact Beam for the win. The weapons make me wish the game was a pure shooter, some of them are just mad fun....Line gun x Steam punk force gun.

Over the shoulder 3rd person hate......wait what?

Are you one of those people who hates the smell of coffee, yet still goes to start bucks and then b****es to all their friends about how much they hate coffee?

But nonetheless, to each his own, Dead Space is an awesome game, it felt very Resident Evil 4ish, but much more polished. How unfortunate Ears isnt working on a sequel.

Yup EARS is working on Dantes' Inferno right now so no Dead Space sequel till they are done with DI.

Any other Dead Space spinoffs are not being done by EARS so it doesnt matter.Especially the Wii version, bulldung.

I didn't say the weapons weren't interesting, neat, or unique. I said they FELT unrefined.

Care to expound on the 2nd part here? I don't like over-the-shoulder 3rd person. I don't like ANY third person in a shooter. Go first person or go make a platformer. I fail to see the need to see the character I'm playing. It's MUCH more immersive to see THROUGH the character's eyes, not into the head behind them. And immersion is exactly what a game like Dead Space would benefit from most. Plus, from a developmental point of view, 3rd person makes no logical sense. Why devote processing power to the character when you can hide him behind the POV with first-person and devote those resources to more important things...like deeper immersion through lighting and sound? In a PROPER immersive game, the player forgets about the character on screen because they ARE the character on screen. Hard to do with 3rd person view. System Shock 2 drove that point home with a hammer the size of Saturn. Dead Space is definitely no SS2. Heck, even The Suffering offered the OPTION to go from 3rd person to 1st. And The Suffering was actiony as heck (but still creepy).

I thought this game was such a FAIL!!!

I even gave it a real chance too! I played up to the point after you kill all the plant things. The controls sucked, weapons sucked, fun factor was lacking, atleast it looked alright though : p

i thought this was one of the most underrated games of last year . the thrills and shock are plenty the atmosphere is perfect . not to mention a truly great story line . the best way i can describe this game is like playing the original resident evil for the first time but more scary. the one thing i did not like about the game is that i thought it was to linear. plus the fact that after you finish the game and want to play it again you get to keep all the gear you had at the end is a truly great move.
