I have a 93 J30 with 109K miles on it die.
It was on the first start of the morning. She fired up fine, ran for maybe a few seconds and died.
Now nothing. It doesn't even catch a little and try to start.
I verified spark and fuel. I'm getting no check engine and self diagnostics throw a 55. Stoopid number for an " OK" if you ask me.
So, what's the Wisdom out there?
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that this is a common issue. You already knew that.

Thanks

It may be flooded.
Hold the gas pedal to the floor(Turns of Injectors)
And crank it for 10 seconds or so and see if it try's to start. :bigthumb:

The MAF is clean. I've tried starting it several times a couple of days apart, so it's not flooded.
Thanks

Check IACV for loose connection of connector or hoses...
Clean throttle throats
How old is the gas?

Crank longer than 10 sec with the gas pedal held to the floor, and not because the engine might be flooded. Make sure TPS connector contacts are clean. There is also a connector on the side the battery on the positive terminal side, that would cause starting a problem if it isn't made.

I tested the throttle position sensor with a DMM and 6 Volt battery. It's working fine dangit. I have a spare I was hoping to use.
I will check the battery connection. Thanks for that suggestion.
The IACV is on the back drivers side of the engine, if I'm not mistaken. I have been over the connections and they're good. I'm wondering how I would test the IACV electrically to completely verify operation. I imagine the IACV has a relay, but if memory serves the contact layout isn't on it and it's a pain in the butt to remove.
The gas is 1 month old Shell Super.

Just after I'd re-installed the plenum and had been adjusting the TPS, I made the mistakes of trying to start the engine without the TPS connector and the one in the vicinity of the battery connected. The engine cranked, but would not fire at all. Don't know how many other connectors and sensors there are like that on a J30. One bad wire/connection, and the ECM might not know that there is air/fuel/spark/compression and that all inputs say good to go.

On mine it was the CAS connector not being fully seated.
Happened after the last TBelt change and freaked me smooth out.
It looked connected but wasn't "Clicked" in.

I checked the positive bat accessory wires by poking through the insulation and checking continuity to the + terminal. One didn't work so I cleaned the connectors bright and shiny with contact cleaner and a Qtip.
I'm unable to test as I also pulled the CAS to move it manually and verify that the injectors are triggering and they are.
Once I button it up I'll post an update. Should be tomorrow or Monday.

There actually are two connectors, and they are located between the battery and the fuse box.

Well, it looks like I have a fuel problem. I thought the pump was okay as I used it to drain the year old gas, but it doesn't seem to have enough pressure/volume to fuel the car. I say this because after cleaning contacts and testing, the car still wasn't running. We went and bought some ether (what would Hunter Thompson do?) and got the car to fire on that.
When I drained the fuel, I disconnected the line under the hood and ran it into a gas can. I never got what could be called a strong stream. It would flow for about four seconds, stop and then I would reset the circuit. I understand the time limit is normal, but I'm not sure about the volume.
Has anyone out there pumped gas as I've described and if so, did it spray with good force?
I don't have a fuel pressure gauge, but I might buy/borrow one.

How can the fuel system build pressure when your allowing it to drain through an open line?

Well, I replaced the fuel pump with a junk yard unit (97 w/79k miles t-boned) and the problem still exists. It just turns over.
A side problem I'm having that I thought replacing the pump would resolve is that the fuel gauge indicates the proper fuel level for a time and then drops to empty and stays there. Don't really care about that in the scheme of things, though.
Any more suggestions would be great.

Did you remove the year old gas and add fresh fuel?

Yes. It's got fresh fuel.

When you replace the fuel pump did you also replace the Fuel pump control module...which is a small box to the right of the fuel tank mounted in the trunk?

No. I didn't replace that. The pump does cycle for about four seconds when the key is turned on.
