You know, I came over this way from the 240 section because a gentleman is thinking about putting a VG30ET into a 240 and making install kits.

I was gonna see what the 300ZX peeps thought about that and what is the most common mods for this engine.

But, I realize I am sitting here talking to myself.

Where the heck is everyone!

Talk to Mattback, he is going to be doing this swap. Also talk to him modifications. Common ones are simply intake and exhaust. They make a cam, as well as other parts, but they are hard to source.

Yeah, his post over in our neck of the woods is why I jumped the fence to the VG section.

It would be a kick but swap. But It looks like a swap of any kind may not be in the cards for me. :(

Oh well. Back to our little Cyber world......

http://www.z31.com/ Go here they can tell about some of the mods you can do. I'll be getting a Z31 one soon then saving up for a RB20DET swap for it. Then I'm going to have a Kakimoto exsaust imported from japan for the car.

Question: Why are you going for an RB20? Why not an RB25 or something bigger? Just curious.

I didn't know that. I had thought about the RB20 for a 240, but i am a poor SOB. I think I will just have to stick with a bolt on turbo kit. Maybe I will get a raise at work. :)

Plus RB20 clips are dirt cheap...compared to other RB setups.

They did not come stock in Japan. They came in a special version of the Z31, known as the 200ZR. This was the highest version (along with the 300ZR, which was the VG30DE engine [or could have been a better tuned VG30E]) that was only sold in Japan. I would love to hear more about a RB20 swap, or a RB25 swap into a Z31. (I check the threads in Z31.com a few times a week) Knowing the RB series engines, i'm sure the RB20 is a boost whore, just like the RB25 and RB26. I hear the VG30ET from the newer Z31s can get some good horsepower from a fair amount of mods. Good luck to the motor swap whoever it is!

It may be a special edition Z31, but nevertheless, stock. As in, the RB20 was put in by Nissan from the factory. Sure it's a limited model, but *nissan* built it and sold it with the RB20. Stock means produced by the factory, not necessarily the base model engine.

Such as the RB26DETT came "stock" in the skyline. Only in a limited model called the GT-R, but still "stock."

I understand what you mean EZ, but I'm trying to point out that not all Z31's in Japan came with RB20DET engines. Sounded like people (Max) thought accordingly. That's all

you know they got a whole bunch of cool stuff like online schematics linked to z31. Im throwing a z31 turbo on my 240 coupe and those engine schematics helped alot for the stuff i needed fabbed.

on another note, im surprised to her that the mounts are the same for the sohc VG's as the rb20's are the same.
