I took my motor out and down to my buddies shop today to do the final cleaning before install. After I got it out of the wash cabinet we put it on the simtest machine and found 0 compression on #8. I'm sick. I was getting all excited about installing it for the last time only to find this.

Anyways, just sharing my pain.

only time i have seen compression zero is with a straight up hole in a piston or all the rings broken and in the pan.i'd recheck compression the old fashioned way with a hand held compression tester and the starter to crank it over.or better yet, do a leakdown test...that will tell all.

The great thing about the Sim test is it can spin the motor up to operational speeds and temps out side of the car.

We ran a standard compression test and came out between 138 and 150 on all holes except 8 which would not register at all.

Leak down test showed sealing on all 7 except 8 again which would not even move the gauge. Sounds like it is leaking around the forward intake valve. I'm gonna rip the head off and see what she looks like.

The good news is that oil pressure looked great and the inside of the motor is clean as a whistle.

Hopefully it's just a stuffed valve or two...

I took the heads off today and discovered the problem. A lifter was not bleeding down, the heads look great. I am a little dissapointed that I went through all that work for a lifter but, on the bright side, I discovered a broken chain guide that was about to fall apart! So its time for some work.

New Timing set and head gasket kit are on the way. I left the heads at my buddy's shop for reworking and the motor should be back together next week, good as new.

Well, despite the extra man hours and delays, good to hear it's nothing major. BTW, if one is stuck, I'd clean all of them while you have the engine out.

I got a whole kit off ebay, metal backed guides and new chains and tensioners. Only $250 or so. The tension side guides where Nissan, but the rest didn't appear to be genuine.
