Car's been sitting for months so now the battery's dead & when I pull the release I get no movement/ I've pressed down on the hood hard several times to no avail. This was my last attempt to sort out the rough idle situation before I send it out to pasture. Shame too as it only has 107K & had all new belts etc done about 1,000 miles ago.

Any of you seasoned Q owners know any tricks to pop the hood open, feel free to share.

Thanks

Grab a flashlight and locate the primary hood latch, the hook. Should be somewhat accessible through the grill. You may have to go at it from underneath the car. You may have to fabricate a tool, but if you can carefully manipulate the primary latch, it'll release.

Have someone pull the release while you're under there looking. That'll tell you a lot.

Once you do get it open, lube the latch and hinges (as well as the release cable inside its casing) with silicone spray lube and work it up and down.

I'm guessing pulling the latch while someone pulls up on the hood didn't work?

I'm solo right now, I'll get an extra pair of hands out there later.

Get something soft but stuff you can wedge between the hood and the bumper or the hood and the headlight to give it some upward force and then pull on the lever.
