Hi. Newbie here with a 2011 M56x. It's a fun peppy ride, in style, with lotsa passenger elbow room, but rather shy on trunk space. Looking fwd to learning all about this beast, and giving her proper TLC. I'm not new to autos & wrenching, so I hope to learn from you DIY folks (if any).

On 2nd day of ownership (ie, wknd) its battery partly drained somehow (?) and it refused to start (just typical rapid clicking). 2 attempts to jump start both failed, due to pesky "Warning Key System" on IP. Did it lose the key codes? Inconceivable! By next morning, battery was totally 100% dead, and a jump start worked. Whew! It's been fine since then (2 days), so far.

Is dead battery a common issue? Is "Warning key system" a problem common? I hope this won't become worse in winter.

Take a look at his thread - strange starting / battery problem - any thoughts

Several people including me had similar issues and resolved it with a replacement battery. I would start with getting it tested.

Yep i had the problem a month ago. AAA tried three different battery packs to jump start my M56x and it also generated the same error. Had it towed to the Inifniti dealership and the next morning they got jump started with their battery pack. They ended up replacing the battery and never had any issues since.

Service dept says my battery tested OK at 661 CCA (out of 700 CCA), and alternator tested OK at 14.3v without load & 14.2v with load, and starter motor was OK too. So parts are OK.

To me, that hints at a software bug (Warning key system), since they pretty much ruled out bad hardware parts. I wonder if they'll fix this "intermittent" bug? I mentioned the TSB to them. But the car & both key fobs worked flawlessly all week, since Monday's "reboot". Haha, it's similar to how Windows computers need a reboot. BTW, I did leave a SD memory card plugged into the USB port, today, just for grins.

Infiniti dealership had it for 2 days, but found nothing wrong. No joy. I hope this doesn't happen often. :-(

Funny this thread popped up...my battery died on me yesterday afternoon. I stopped after work to get gas, and after I was done the car wouldn't crank. No indication of a low battery prior to this event. I called my neighbor who jumped me off no problem. Got to the house and removed the battery, which BTW, requires removal of the plastic housing and right side cowling to get it out. Mine was a factory Infiniti battery, 84 month, 700 CCA and 130 RC. My car is a 2012 M56x (purchased in 10/15) but the battery had a 03/14 date sticker on it. Anyway, had a hard time finding a replacement. Autozone said it would take 3 days to get one. Advance Auto doesn't even show a battery for the M. Third trip to O'reilly netted me two choices. The Platinum Plus has 775 CCA but only 120 RC which I'm not sure if that'll be a problem. I went ahead and bought it, but I decided to keep the factory one, because it has a "limited" warranty on it, and I'm going to run by the dealership today and see if I can get some kind of credit or replacement. According to the sticker, it's only 2-1/2 years old. The new one is a little shorter in height, so I had to put shims under the hold down bar so that the nuts on the hooks wouldn't bottom out. Seems to run OK, but if I can get a factory replacement free, I will return the one I bought.

I've had my battery replaced 3 or 4 times by the dealer already, seems to last about a year and they throw in a new Nissan battery. the last time my car wouldn't start they said there was an update. Something about the car keeping some things running after it is shut off for emissions, the update disabled this is and I haven't had a problem since. the battery I am now on has lasted about 18 months so far. I only take long trips of at least 20 miles daily so its not short stop/start. may want to ask them about this.

The "won't start when jumpered" problem has not reappeared in the past year. Yay!

But this summer, listening to the radio for just about 1/2 hr killed the battery (engine off). Thankfully, a jumper worked.
So I replaced the car battery with a Bosch Platinum AGM Group Size 24F, from Pep Boys. It's the biggest one that fits.
No issues now. Also I replaced the key fob battery with a larger CR-2032 size, which fits perfectly.

If the dude at the counter does not know a 24F series battery when he sees one he needs to learn about cars. The Autozone guy argued with me that the Duralast Platinum AGM I bought would not fit in my M56 because the computer said they did not carry a battery for it. My battery was replaced about every 6 months for 4 years with the stupid Nissan Interstate batteries. The AGM is a great battery. My power hungry Express conversion van that sits for weeks at a time has had the same one going on 4 years now. Not once has it even struggled to bring the old 350 V8 to life.

The key system failure warning I was getting was a dying key fob battery. A new battery in the keyfob fixed it for me.

In your M? I thought the lights auto-shut off, at least they do with my M.

They do.my wife took the baby seat out of the car right before we took a cab to the airport. and hit the light button above rear door by accident.leaving the light on for 2 weeks.

What is the official OEM size Battery for this car. I have an 2011 M37. I know a 24F and 34R fit but what was the size that came with the car originally. I'm on my 3rd battery and seem to be getting close to needing a 4th. I currently have a 24F AGM Energizer (not sure who makes that one). I'm considering an East Penn Deka for the next one (or one of their rebranded ones sold locally).

It's odd that we get the key system 171 warning at the same time the car battery is having issues. I would think it would be unrelated and I recently changed the key fob battery.

In Aug, I replaced my original OEM battery. The labels said it was brand "Infiniti", "84 month", and size 24F. I bought a Bosch Platinum Series AGM size 24F ( https://www.pepboys.com/product/details/838890/00162 ), and I'm happy with it.

Size 24F = 10-3/4"L x 6-13/16"W x 9"H and
Size 34R = 10-1/4"L x 6-13/16"W x 7-7/8"H.
So 24F is a little longer and taller than 34R.

The fob battery is smaller, so lasts only 1 year. I replaced the fob's original CR2016 lithium 3V battery with a CR2032 lithium 3V battery. They're identical in every way except double the thickness (32 mm vs 16 mm), so double capacity. Fits and works perfectly.

I started having an issue with the G like this before I got rid of it.At the same time started having a bug with the center screen. After the Infiniti logo went away it would go to a black screen for like 30 seconds and you had no control of anything on the center stack then it would go back to normal after the 30 seconds. Backup camera was also black when it did this. Found a hack to throw it reverse as soon as I started it then it would come right on like normal. I ended up getting rid of the car. Battery tested fine but they said it was too small for the car. It worked fine for 3 years. Electrical gremlins are a headache.
