I just swaped a 93 De motor into my 89 240. completely rebuilt. jim wolf ecm, high comp pistons, cams, port and polish, headers, exhaust, intake. I can not get the motor to start. i have fuel and spark. the starter is turning the motor. injectors are working. i have called my local friendly nissan dealer and they say its the timming of the distributor. some of my true mechanic friends say that i should stand on the starter and hold open the throttle for a few minutes to get the system going, which i dont know is safe. I haven't checked the comuter for any warning codes. is this just a simple timming adjusting?

thanks

It is very likely that your timing is off. Get a timing light and check it; I'd imagine you're a fair distance off. If you have fuel and spark and the starter is turning then it almost has to be a timing issue.

I know all your internals are new. but for fun do a compression test, see if it will build up.

shes running now. had to play with the distributor for a while. have to play with the idle a bit to get her to run on her own. with high compression pistons thats going to be tricky. but on the other hand, i have a very small oil leak out the side where the front cover that holds the water pump. i put some gasket sealer in the bolt holes and retorqued the bolts down.

yep, it was a timing issue, just like I said. You may wnat to get a timing LIGHT and set the timing correctly before you do much else. Bad timing can cause a host of problems, especially with a high-comp engine.
