I've heard that you can use a non active PS pump on a de-activated Q. My mechanic is no comfortable with doing this as he claims that it's somewhat complex and not entirely clear as to how to go about this.

Problem is my active PS pump is going bad. This is the second pump my mechanic has put in for me (first I think was just plain worn from mileage). I'm hearing squealing from this second pump just like I had from the first replacement pump (within 2000 miles of replacing).

Regarding the check engine light. This started happening recently but I've had 02 and knock sensors/harnesses replaced just a few months ago. My mechanic did try to pull codes but found none(?).

It comes on ususally during fwy driving. In fact on a long trip I was stuck in traffic on the fwy and the light actually turned off for quite some time. Car seems to run fine, accelerates strong, no unusual fuel consumption.

so your mechanic replaced the active pump with another active pump? Did he fill the hose that loops around with active "fruid" when it was bypassed?

Jared (silver2k2) just went through this same PS pump conversion and had some issues. He has a couple of threads going in this forum and I'm sure he'll chime in soon to give you his story.

If the CEL is lighting up there's got to be a code. I'm sure your mechanic is a nice guy but you have a couple of experts real close to you. Assuming you're in the RHE area, try hooking up with Jay (3QJay) in Huntington Beach or Bruce (BruceWieland) in the Whittier area. Both have consult cables and DataScan programs and would be happy to help you out.

My guess: Sounds just like an EGR problem. Does the CEL not come on until about 15-20 after you start your commute?

Mike - yes - cel comes on around 15-20 mins drive though I took a trip out to Palm Springs on Mother's day weekend and there were times when I didn't see the cel light come on for over an hour.

Scottjackson -The by hose was filled - but maybe not enough? Is there a good way/technique to fill this?

Need help here - I'm on my 3rd PS pump in less than a year.

WTF is up with the loop back system? Why can't it be fully filled? Does not seem to be any evidence of a leak. My mechanic is willing to replace the pump under warantee but I don't think he'll do it a fourth time.

Anyone?

Tom- lemme know if you want to gtg some time. i don't recall if we pulled the active fuse at the fuse box? probably won't do anything, just thinking that maybe the solenoid for the active side of the pump is sticking ON.is the fluid 'leaving' the loopback hose (drying out?)

Jay - thanks for the input. I'm out on business next week (till next Thurs) but maybe when I get back in?

BTW - your silver G50a is looking better than ever!
