kinda silly but, I got HID's and I want them on, ALL the time. It is so annoying to have to manually turn my headlights on and off during the day, has anyone tried/thought about rewiring the headlights somehow so they act like daytime running lights and are on whenever the car is on?

Also, not onyl have the lights on at all times but have all of the internal lighting work properly like it does now when the lights are off. (So during the day, the dash cluster is bright and fully on)

I dont think you have to turn em off, afaik if you leave the headlights on and turn the car off, they will turn off after a minute or so.

my car has a solid tone that SCREAMS out of my dash when i leave the lights on, turn off my car and open the door. I have a feeling the lights wont turn off automatically if they are in the manual 'on' position.

Can anyone confirm/deny this for sure? I know the lights will turn on and off by themselves if they are set to 'auto'.

i think this is funny. my last car had daytime running lights, and you could not shut off your headlights. everyone loved to do the disable drl mod. Now when people don't have DRL's they want to add them.

ok i think we are misunderstanding eachother.

Not the repetative beep sound that happens every time you open the door and close it. I am talking about the continuous tone that happens when you have your headlights in the 'ON' position. Turn your engine off and open your door. There will be a continuous ear piercing tone. If you turn the lights to AUTO the tone stops.

My only assumption here can be that the continuous tone is a warning 'HEY TURN UR LIGHTS OF DUMMY!'. If not, what is the purpose of different beeps given different states of the headlight switch?

REGARDLESS . . . leaving my headlights in the on position (even assuming they will shut off, which i sincerely doubt) still dims all of the lights on my dash including my head unit. So this is not a solution to my problem.

So once again, has anyone attempted doing this? Is it even possible?

Hmm... well the dash will always dim i think.... What about covering the "magic eye" and leaving it on "auto"?

see thats what i'm gettin at here, hehe, the dash lights dimming during the day is unacceptable.

This is what I want...Turn my car on in the middle of the day and:1. Dash lights are all bright and visible. 2. Lowbeams turn on and stay on until i shut my car off, at that point, they should also turn off.

I feel like i'm being ridiculous here lol but i want what i wantz!

does anyone have a diagram of this wiring or anything?

oh oh oh just thought of this one . . . is there a way to bypass just the headlight signal from the 'auto' function? So while in Auto state, the car will still dim/brighten the dash given the available light, but the lights would just stay on with the engine? like . . . disable the control the auto function has over the headlight and just hardwire them to power?

Go to this website and buy the universal daytime running light kit. It's only $39 and hook them up to your highbeans and not your HIDs. Our HIDS have only like a 2000 hour life before replacement. You don't want to short live the HID bulbs if you don't have to..

but . . . but . . . i want to show them off! lol hhmmm gona go crunch some numbers see how long it would take to run 2khrs . . .

rough numbers crunched . . . bulbs should last me 1.5-2yrs given an estimate of 45mins/day . . . thats not so bad i wouldnt mind dropping 60-80 every 1-2yrs to be rollin around HIDs blazin 24/7 lol

Yes but that is assuming the ballast for the hids can operate at that low of a wattage. HIDs in general consume twice the wattage when turned on, then the wattage is reduced to the normal operating wattage (normally 35w). Putting a DRL on a HID ballast will either kill the DRL unit itself or it won't work because there's not enough wattage pushing through the ballast.

Can't you over ride the dash brightness when the head lights are on? With mine, I can set the brightness to the same brightness as with the lights off. I just turn the knob on the left side of the dash, next to the tach, to control brightness.

Doesn't the Canadian Altimas have DRL by default? Can we not just enable those by installing a fuse or something?

if you adjust the dash brightness to max it will be the same as if you have the light of during the day.
