I have a Canadian 1994 Q45 and it came with daytime running lights (DRL - as is the custom here in Canada). The DRLs come on and run the high-beams at half-strength when parking ignition is on, brake is off, car is not in park, etc.

Lately, I have experienced intermittent operation in the driver's side DRL. However, when the driver's DRL cuts out, the passenger's DRL goes on full blast. If the driver's flickers on again, both go back to normal DRL levels. I have replaced the bulb a couple of times (just to be sure) and the problem persists. Any suggestions before I go get my sledge hammer?

Look at page EL-235 of the FSM for the location of a daytime light relay and control unit. Both are for Canadian models only and either one of these could be the culprit. There should be a self-diagnosis for both of these components in the same section of the FSM.

I have this very same problem with my '92 Nissan NX. Did you figure out what it was? It has to do with the Daytime Running Light Module, but what exactly?

I have the factory shop manual but couldn't figure out anything from it.
