Hey I am gonna get a 1st(240 or 260) gen. Z for my first car and I am gonna swap an RB26DETT(R34) into it. I know it will fit because people have done it before(I thought up the swap before I learned that people have done it before :doh) but the only problem is it isn't a direct fit. You see it need new engine mounts, a new exhaust manifold, and a new driveshaft because it is a 5 or 6 speed transmission when the datsun has 4 or 5 speed transmission so some cutting will be involved. So if anyone can provide me with some links/pics or some help it will be greatly appreaciated. Also I was thinking one time and I though a fun swap to do it to take a VG35DETT and put it into a brand spankin' new 350Z :D, that would give it some power.

For more info you will want to check out zcar.com and hybridz.org . I hope you have the time, money and knowledge to complete the swap. Both of the engines you mentioned have been swapped in z's creating very fast cars. But then again, what hasen't been swapped into a z? Make sure you have enough money to upgrade the brakes and suspension. I have an early 260 with a cam, exhaust , triple dcoe 40s, 83 zx 5spd and r200 with 3.90 gears. It won't set any records but is plenty fast for a first car. I know most nissan freaks like the idea of the swaps you mentioned. But as someone that has owned several zs, when my engine goes it will get a Ford 5.0 with an all aluminum top end. I'll get my power the na way. Just my 2 cent, good luck and have fun with your new car.

thanks man, also you might want to think about this swap cause the early Z is so light that if you put a bone-stock R34 RB26DETT in it it will run high mid to high 10's and low to mid 11's, i'm estimating it should probably break 180 or 190 cause it is 2 seconds quicker than a R34 skyline in the 1/4 mile. another reason why i am doing this swap because 1)To prove to all the people that don't give "ricers"(imports) any respect that Japanese cars/engines are fast cars and can smoke most American cars(most of the time the American cars are bone stock because their owners are so confident in them except the occasional exhaust system), not that I have anything against american cars or anything, just their pompous owners, and 2)I just wanna stay true to the Nissan name and at the same time make serious power and serious timeslips. thanks for the help, any other help would be appreaciated. thanks
