This time it's in gray and the cars are much more visible. I even redid the art on the 370 to make it look a bit more modern to the 240s more classic look.
It's on presale for just 4 more days and it's only presently at 36% sold. LET'S MAKE THIS SHIRT HAPPEN! Just $15 with free shipping during the presale.

Today is the LAST DAY! If we don't get at least to 80% we won't be printing this one and I'll have to refund everyone who's purchased so far. If you have ordered already then spread the word so you can get your shirt!

what is the total number you are trying to sell?

I hesitate to spread the work when you can't guarantee the product will indeed be sold

24 will get us to 80% which is what we're calling good enough.. we've sold 18.. need 6 more.

If we don't make it then everyone who buys gets their money back. I know this isn't ideal but it's the way we have to work it for now. We're planning on either building our own system for these kind of sales in the future or just using kickstarter if we can squeek it past their TOS.

So they get printed and drop ship from the printer/manufacturer? This is why you presale enough to cover the cost of a "lot" and the extras are shipped to you for resale which I'm guessing is your profit? So you want enough presale to keep you from having cash out covering inventory?

This I understand it just doesn't show a lot of confidence in the product, and they cost more later because you then have to package and ship them yourself.

We've done about 20 presales in the past and only one ever failed. Every time when the presale is finished we order about double.. maybe a little more.. than what we sold in the presale. The big box comes to us and we package and ship every one ourselves. They only cost more later because we start charging shipping. Free shipping during the presale is just to help move it along and we eat the cost of shipping.

If it's concerns you have about quality or receiving the product I'm sure there are several folks on here who can vouch for us because they have the red version of this shirt or our 510 shirt which also just passed it's 2nd presale in another color.

If it's my business model you are concerned about... we do just fine. You get a low cost, high quality shirt and I get some money to buy car parts. Win - Win. :)

looks like you met your minimum, I don't mean to criticize your business I just don't understand the concept of offering a product only if a minimum per-order sales can be made, you won't commit to a product unless you can reach a guaranteed volume before you actually order the product. This sort of thinking would keep many great products off the market, but we're dealing with T shirts not new innovative products.

I actually think it will be more and more prevalent in the future. Just look at kickstarter.com and their success stories if you need some examples.

Also I'm working towards having a more kickstarter model.. we would rather just take confirmations for orders but not take any money until the goal is met. Until we can build our own system to do this we're likely going to just start using kickstarter to run presales.. just too bad that they only use amazon payments and not paypal.
