I aquired a model t ford with a 4 cyl engine in it, with a valve cover that reads Datsun
on it. I'm trying to figure out what it is from, so I can get PARTS for it? It is a SOHC, has a carb# DAF328-10 on it and a distributor #D4A2-01 401. It has writen
The engine appears to have been put away for long term storage, top end all greased up. Then the suprise came. I decited to check the bottom end out, droped the pan and indeed it was put away for long time storage. filled with grease and oiled up news papers dated Feb 1992. Dropped a rod cap, it was new, looked up at the pistons new. It has a manual transmission, how many gears? Have not dropped the inspection plate, to check. Thanks

I've often wondered the same thing.
Have seen it many many times in the Pathfinder forum.

That carb is for an L16 (early 510 engine, 68 or 69). Likely a 4-speed, but without pics, it could be any manner of mishmash.

Various reasons. Could be because they've posted their problem/question/concern on multiple forums and just forgot all the places they've posted to. The problem gets compounded if their email service blocks our reply notices as possible spam, and they don't realize someone has offered to help them.

I have stated before why It looks like I have not posted in the past. I find it very hard to access this site, at my age it is hard to teach old dogs new tricks, that said.
I need to make up a drive shaft. yoke out of the trans. The best I can count there is 23
splines on the trans. shaft, need a cross (ujoint) and the other half the cross goes to.
thanks. Ps; the past information about the carb and dist. helped.

Based on a quick look, it's an L-series, most likely an L16. That would explain the "72 Pickup" marking on the transmission, which would also jive with that manifold. Not a lot of power.

Allegedly, "M2" designates a factory replacement block. But, the good news is that it's an engine that has readily-available parts.

A good upgrade would be an L20b from a late 70's 620 pickup. L18 head, a slight overbore, z24 stroker crank, and a cam will get her near 200hp.

Then again, after all that, you could simply go with a modern engine, and have loads of power - that project is a blank slate... Looks like you could bolt in almost anything, easily.
