Do any of you guys know whats involved with swapping a V8 into a Datsun(240z or 280zx)? Are there places that sell custom motor mounts for them, driveshafts, etc? What size V8's are the easiest to swap into this chassis? I'm thinking about either getting another 240sx chassis or a 240z/280zx chassis as a new project while I'm on co-op.

If I go with the Datsun I'm debating if I'd want to buy a restored car already and then swap a V8 in or get one that needs restoring.

Just find one that is rust free (good luck) and do it, not a fully restored one. Restorations of course, are ALWAYS expensive.

If I do this, I'm going to end up fully restoring it anyway so it's shiny and sexy looking. Just an idea right now......I'll have to think about it more and see what types of cars I can find. I just want a project that will look good and be powerful.

Check ebay, there are a few Z shells/project cars (280's and 300's) on there now. I say get a 90's 300Z shell, I think there's 1 or 2 that you could get for less that $1000.

The 240/260/280Z V8's been done (not that doing it again wouldn't be nice), go for something a little more original .

There's a place on West street in Annapolis, MD that does them. Isn't there a NICO guy in that part of the world, maybe he could get some info from them??

if you do a 240/280Z just put in the turbo 280zx motor.....or do something fun like the SR (there's a white 240z with the det in either SS or SCC) or go nuts and put in an RB (something I've considered for a 240Z.

You know my whole stance on the V8's in them...... GAY!!!!

a SR20DET would be a good idea because you can get that motor dirt cheap and you would have a fast car.

Im working on restoring a 300zx turbo and i have a ton of work ahead of me. rust is my main problem right now

RB motor...hey...how about an RB30DE. Those were used is some of the Z31's here in Japan. Monster motor and can be built for lots of power. Might be hard to find, but definatley available.

You can get 'em out of Australia if you're willing to pay shipping. There's also a totally comprehensive .PDF out there to make it into the DE (and T if ya want) using any of the other RB heads.

Which V8 did you plan to use?

I'm thinking either 350, 383 stroker or 400 small block. I read that a Chevy motor paired with a GM transmission is the easiest to swap.

280/240Z swaps are simple.Relatively striaght forward strip and re-install.There is even a kit for the motor mounts to make life even simpler.

v8 swap is ghey unless it's a Nissan v8 into a Nissan car. Just my 2 cents.
