Sorry for cross-posting but I may have originally posted this in the wrong forum.

Fluid seems to be at a proper level, (possibly not) but I have a periodic (and sometimes very wet) leak coming from the top (it actually comes up through the floor [transmission and engine are not in a Datsun] besides dripping on the ground). Seems to happen on warmer days when engine is run harder. Other days, no leaks or very small.Transmission was serviced and pan is tight. Mechanic who serviced it didn't seem to notice anything wrong. The car did sit for a number of years.Any ideas before I take it to a shop for closer scrutiny?

If you have access to see it, look for a vent on top of the case -- most auto trans' have one -- try to verify the leak is from there. Usually, when fluid "vents", especially when hotter / run hard and you KNOW the level is good, it's a bad sign....I haven't personally seen a vehicle "vent" that didn't need a trans / rebuild shortly.....

If the fluid level were too high, would this also cause it?transmission shifts and runs fine.
