My alternator gave out, and my 510 is my only car so I would appreciate a quick point in the right direction. I went to Autozone to order a new one, but what I got was with a 3 pronged connector, mine uses a "T" 2 pronged plug. I don't know what exactly I should do. I don't have a lot of money or much experience in the Datsun world, so I'm not sure what alternator options I have.

From what I've read around, is that I can use a 280ZX Turbo alternator. But my concern is that it is internally regulated, and I don't know what I have to do with the old external setup. Also, will it fit directly without problems? and what years does it have to be from? I need to get back on the road ASAP, so a quick and good response will be greatly appreciated.

Another option I considered was swapping in the 3 pronged connector for the new alternator, I just don't know where to get such a connector.

However, if the 280ZX alternator is an easy deal, I would much rather do that.

I thank you all in advance ^_^

They gave you the wrong alternator if it only has a 3 prong plug

If you want to rewirehttp://dimequarterly.tierranet....htmland diagram

very easy to do

77' 200sx if you want to stay externally regulated78' 200sx if you want to swap to internally regulated

You might need a longer v belt.

thank you! I went with the 77 to just drop it in, however there is a squeal now. I think it might be to tight, but if I needed to go with a longer belt, what belt do I need? I mean, how long? from what car? etc.

sorry if I ask to much, but it'll be great if you or someone else could tell me

thank you

belt tension is supposed to be "22lbs", 8-12mm of movement

Go to napa, or any parts house.... but I know napa v belts are sold by length, in increments of 1/2" *maybe 1"..* They'll measure it and give you a longer, or shorter one.

A belt from 77 200sx should work, just take your belt with you to be certain.
