Hello everyone, first time being in this website. Anyway I've had my 411 roughly a year now and I wanted to swap my j13 to a j16. Reason why I'm in this website is cause I've been looking for a j16 engine everywhere. Feel like this is my last resort, if anyone is selling a j16 in running condition, please notify me thank you and take care.

J16 engine… the R16 would be to complicating to put in. Rather have a J16 engine it'll fit in perfectly.

If at all possible, get a RL411 engine, it has all the modifications needed to fit the sedan. The roadster engine needs several modifications in order to fit the 411 engine compartment.

And be aware of the front left hand interior fender liner hole needed to be cut in order to accomodate the modified type R engine exhaust ! The exhaust pipe routing may also have to be modified. Don't know from your posting as to where you are located [hint, update] but i you come to this year's JCCS show we can talk I have owned and maintained my RL411 for 50 years so can guide you in available and replacement parts !

Thanks Mike, for the info/advice really appreciate it. I just bought a whole complete r16 engine and trans. I wanna get the whole swap done before the JCCS. Well hopefully I do.

Hope you make the JCCS at the new location. If so, no problem, we will be side by side since vehicles are grouped by make and model. I am usually the only Datsun 411 in the whole show.

I have covered the mods needed but in piecemeal fashion throughout this section. I will take time to list in a non-confusing fashion needed mods starting with the fuel line relocation to modifying the roadster water pump and even ordering "the wrong brake master cylinder for a early 310 roadster" which turns out to be correct for the RL411. I'm a little stretched for time right now with Income Tax filing but will document the works and e-mail to you. If good enough, I will them massage it a little and open a posting here also.

The first thing to pass on is to go to www.carpartsmanual.com/datsun/bluebird-1965-1967 and download the 411 parts manual. There is a good index up front and you can zoom in on parts you will need like the RL411 unique finned cast aluminum oil pan. Roadster oil pans are rectangular and fit between the roadster rails. They "can" be changed while the engine is still in the car. The RL411 sits on the front cross member and the cast oil pan is shaped to sit on top of the cross member and add extra cooling surface for the fins by filling the space between the cross member and the transmission. The engine and transmission need to be removed from the car to change to oil pan or gasket.

Thanks Mike once again for the info, I'm going to do my best to get in touch with a Rl411 oil pan.
