The next model year cars will start being built from about September of the previous year till around about August. Depending on manufacturer. So you bought a 15, I guess you would say early edition.

You definately got a 2015. Our 2016 was built in Oct/Nov of 2015, and it had a 2016 model year.

What go me checking, is that my lights self-adjust. The 2015 is not supposed have this feature, but mine being built in 14 got it. I would like to adjust low beams up a bit. I can see adjustment screw but not sure how to turn it, looks like a star washer. Also, would it screw up the self adjusting.

My 2015 SV shows August 2015 on the plate so I guess it is one of the later ones for that year. This "Model Year" BS is just a manufactures sales tactic. I think if it was made before Jan 2016 then it is a 2015. I hear that the Korean companies are releasing the new model year in August.

You may not agree with it, but the tradition goes back a full century:
"The automotive model year started back in the teens. Farmers would harvest their crops and sell them every fall, and that's when they had enough cash in their pockets to go out and buy a car. And that's how the model year started, and eventually that's how the fall introduction of new cars started," says John Wolkonowicz, an independent auto analyst and historian in Boston.

After World War II, the industry settled on Oct. 1 as the start of the model year, Wolkonowicz said, and it was subsequently recognized as the time new cars and new features arrived annually.
Look at it this way, if the automakers waited until the beginning of the year to begin production, the new cars wouldn't hit the market until almot June.

Changes in options and styling go with the model year, not the manufacture date, so I'd be more interested in the model year.

My 2013 Rogue was built 06/13 and shipped over from Japan. It was on the dealer's lot in early August and I picked it up August 6. So estimating 6-8 weeks of ocean travel time, I basically got it straight from the factory as quickly as possible. It's one of the last of the first generation ever built (not counting the 2014 and 2015 Select models), but I don't think my experience owning it would have been one bit different if it had been manufactured in 12/12 and sat on the dealer's lot for six months prior to my purchase.

Yes, but you might have got some build specs of a 14 model, like I got 14 stuff on my early 15

I got my 2015 Rogue in November of 2014 and I definitely have a 2014 build date on mine. Model years usually change over 3Q or 4Q of a year to the next year.

My 2015 also has the auto-leveling LED headlamps that self-adjust when the car first starts. They discontinued it in the middle of the 2015 model year, ending with cars manufactured in 12/2014. Not sure why but I guess it was too much maintenance? Never found added value with the self-leveling headlamps but they're there.

Just more useless stuff to break so they can charge big money to fix it.
